The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time unlocks on Nintendo Switch 2 at midnight local time on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Nintendo’s store page lists the date and no launch hour, so this is the usual Nintendo rollout: midnight in each region, and midnight Eastern Time across the whole United States. West Coast players get it at 9 p.m. Pacific on November 4.
Quick answer:
- Ocarina of Time unlocks on Switch 2 at 12:00 a.m. local time on November 5, 2026. Nintendo has published no launch hour, so the eShop’s midnight pattern is the rule.
- In the United States that is 12:00 a.m. ET on November 5, or 9 p.m. PT on November 4 out west.
- The UK gets it at midnight GMT on November 5, Central Europe at midnight CET, Japan at midnight JST, and Sydney at midnight AEDT. New Zealand is first, the US last.
- There is no published pre-load time. Nintendo lists the download as an estimated 27 GB, so clear space before launch night.
- It costs $59.99 digital or $69.99 physical. Digital purchases made before November 23, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. PT come with a Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary wallpaper.
When does Ocarina of Time unlock on Switch 2?
Nintendo’s product page says “Releases 11/5/26” and “Available 11/5”, marks the game as pre-orderable, and publishes no hour. The Switch 2 eShop therefore goes with its standard rule: the download appears at 12:00 a.m. in the region you are buying it in.
| Region | Unlock time, your local clock |
|---|---|
| New Zealand | 12:00 a.m. NZDT, Thursday November 5 |
| Australia (Sydney) | 12:00 a.m. AEDT, Thursday November 5 |
| Japan | 12:00 a.m. JST, Thursday November 5 |
| United Kingdom | 12:00 a.m. GMT, Thursday November 5 |
| Central Europe | 12:00 a.m. CET, Thursday November 5 |
| United States | 12:00 a.m. ET, Thursday November 5 (9 p.m. PT on Wednesday November 4 out west) |
The table is also the launch order. New Zealand’s midnight comes first in absolute time, and the US unlock lands roughly 18 hours later.
What time does it unlock in the US?
Nintendo rolls Switch 2 eShop releases out at midnight Eastern Time for the whole country, so everyone in the US gets the download at once on New York’s clock. That is 12:00 a.m. ET on November 5 in New York, Atlanta and Miami, and 9 p.m. PT on November 4 in Los Angeles and Seattle. If you are on the West Coast, this is a Wednesday-night download.
For example, a player in Seattle and a player in Miami get the download at the same moment, 9 p.m. PT and 12:00 a.m. ET on the night of November 4. A player in Auckland is already inside the game at 12:00 a.m. NZDT on November 5.
That single US-wide moment is the pattern we documented for Nintendo Switch Sports Resort’s Switch 2 launch on October 22 and for It Takes Two on Switch 2, and the same rule turned up again with Hokko Spaces on October 29.
What time does it unlock in the UK, Europe and Asia?
In the UK the eShop flips at 12:00 a.m. GMT on November 5, and in Central Europe at 12:00 a.m. CET on the same date. Japan gets it at 12:00 a.m. JST, Sydney at 12:00 a.m. AEDT and Auckland at 12:00 a.m. NZDT. Because every region unlocks at its own midnight, players in New Zealand and Australia can be in the game about 18 hours before the US date rolls over.
Has Nintendo said when pre-loading starts?
No. Nintendo’s product data shows the game as pre-orderable with no pre-load time attached, and the page warns that “information related to the game, including ratings and download size, may not be finalized at time of preorder”. What you can plan around is the size: the listing gives an estimated 27 GB, which sits above the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 editions in our pre-order guide.
How much does it cost, and is there a physical copy?
Nintendo lists a Standard Edition at $59.99 for the digital download, which is already open for pre-order, and a separate Physical Edition at $69.99, marked “Coming soon” on the physical product page. Buy digital before November 23, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. PT and Nintendo’s publisher notification adds a Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary digital wallpaper, delivered by email through My Nintendo once the promotion ends. Our pre-order guide has the rest: the 16 supported languages, the file size and the Zelda Notes requirements.
Do you need Nintendo Switch Online to play it?
No. Save Data Cloud is Nintendo’s backup service for save files, and Nintendo’s product data lists it as the game’s one Nintendo Switch Online feature. The store’s own disclaimer says “A Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) is required for Save Data Cloud backup.” Nothing else on the page puts the game behind a subscription. Zelda Notes, the phone companion app, needs a Nintendo Account, a persistent internet connection and a compatible smart device, and that is free.
What comes with the remake on day one
Ocarina of Time is built for Switch 2 only, so original Switch owners cannot play it. Nintendo’s product page lists overhauled visuals, orchestral music, voice acting and expanded cutscenes. You get a jump-and-dash control scheme with a modern camera, and you can play Link’s ocarina by humming into the Switch 2 microphone or by playing an instrument into it.
amiibo are Nintendo’s figurines that unlock extras when you tap them to a controller. Any existing Legend of Zelda series amiibo gives in-game extras, and the new Young Link and Young Zelda figures, due in 2027, unlock masks. Threads of Time, the remake’s progress and objective tracker, is on the same page, and our launch story has the announcement and the remake’s headline changes, and November 5 is on the Release Calendar.
The two Switch 2 launches we covered in October, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort on October 22 and It Takes Two, both rolled out on Nintendo’s midnight-local pattern, and Ocarina of Time’s store page lists no hour that breaks it. That consistency is what makes the countdown on this page usable. The download lands at 12:00 a.m. in your own region on November 5, and the United States is the only place with a different clock, because Nintendo still rolls out at midnight Eastern.
The two launches we can compare directly, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort on October 22 and It Takes Two, and the third, Hokko Spaces on October 29, all used the same rule. New Zealand, Australia and Japan get the game roughly 18 hours ahead of the US unlock, so for anyone outside North America the practical advice is to buy early and let the download sit there.
