Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Definitive Edition launches worldwide on February 25, 2027 for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo’s eShop listing and an official Nintendo news post confirm. Pre-orders are open now on the Nintendo eShop.

The package combines the 2020 Switch original with both waves of its Expansion Pass DLC (the game’s paid add-on bundle that originally shipped in two waves during 2021), which brings the playable roster from 18 to 21 fighters. It also adds a new Calamity Mode difficulty, billed by Nintendo as “the most challenging way to experience” the game. Calamity Mode is the toughest setting in the Definitive Edition: enemies hit harder and healing items barely work. The package adds GameShare support too, which is Nintendo Switch 2’s split-screen share-play feature (only one person needs to own the game for online or local co-op via GameChat). The Switch 2 install is 22 GB, roughly twice the Switch original’s 11.1 GB.

Players who already own the Switch version get a discount on the Switch 2 digital edition and can transfer their save data. The Definitive Edition runs on Switch 2 only. The eShop listing notes that “it cannot be played on Nintendo Switch,” though the original Switch release and its DLC remain playable on Switch 2 hardware.

The game is set 100 years before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It follows Link, Zelda, the four Champions, and other allies as they try to fend off Calamity Ganon. The story is one players saw only in flashbacks in BotW. Omega Force is the Koei Tecmo subsidiary that develops the Warriors franchise, and it built this title. The Switch original became the best-selling game in the Warriors metaseries history in four days and crossed 4 million copies by January 2022. Koei Tecmo followed it up with the Switch 2 launch title Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment in 2025.

Hyrule Warriors games live in a different lane from the mainline Zelda series. Musou is Koei Tecmo’s signature hack-and-slash style, with large-scale battles against waves of enemies. The mainline Zelda series uses puzzle-driven exploration that defines Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo’s US eShop listing shows the Definitive Edition ships in 13 languages: Japanese, British English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Dutch, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Latin American Spanish, Canadian French, and American English.

No US price was listed on the eShop page at the time of writing. Nintendo’s Sept 11 news post about the Definitive Edition didn’t include a US dollar price either. The company usually reveals prices closer to launch or at a Nintendo Direct.

This release slots into a crowded Switch 2 Zelda lineup. The 2026 calendar has shipped Ocarina of Time remake coverage all month ahead of its November 5 launch, and the prior Zelda-era release was Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment in 2025. Nintendo now has both a BotW-flavored action-adventure remake and a hack-and-slash companion coming within months of each other.

The Definitive Edition fits the Switch 2’s recent enhanced-port pattern. Original Switch games are being rebuilt for the new hardware:

One thing worth flagging for players: the pre-order discount for existing Switch owners doesn’t have a listed dollar figure yet, and Nintendo didn’t quote an MSRP on the original Sept 11 announcement either. The company typically reveals Switch 2 prices either at a Nintendo Direct or in the weeks before launch.

Nintendo’s September 11 announcement beat most English outlets to the news. ScreenRant surfaced it this morning after the Alltop aggregator picked up the story, and most English-language outlets haven’t matched the Nintendo eShop listing’s release date yet.
