Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on Friday, October 23, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It’s the first Call of Duty on a Nintendo console since 2013’s Ghosts, and it skips PS4 and Xbox One entirely. We update this page as Activision confirms more; the dates below come from Xbox Wire and Activision’s edition details.

DMZ
The extraction mode is back on a new map, Hajin, with crafting at a Forward Operating Base, Story Missions, Dynamic Operations and persistent Operators. Read our DMZ early access story for how it works.
Which edition should you buy?
Most players should take the $69.99 Digital Standard. It gets the same campaign and DMZ early access as the Vault Edition. The $30 Vault upgrade only makes sense if you’d buy the Season 1 BlackCell pass anyway, since the Vault bundles it with the Operator packs and weapon collection. If you want a disc, know that it skips early access.
Not on Game Pass at launch
Game Pass is Microsoft’s game subscription. Unlike Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7, which launched on it, Modern Warfare 4 isn’t in Game Pass on day one. Xbox has been telling subscribers to buy the game if they want to play at launch; Game Pass availability starts in Holiday 2027. We analyzed the two options: $69.99 now, or a wait of about 14 months to play it through the subscription.
Crossplay and progression
Crossplay covers PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2, and progress follows your Activision ID. You still need to buy the game on each platform you play on. The Switch 2 version supports optional Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
