Nintendo’s remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches on November 5, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo revealed the remake in its June Direct and set the date during the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma called it “a faithful interpretation using modern technologies.” The confirmed changes go beyond a new coat of paint:

  • A jump button that replaces Link’s automatic jumping, plus rolling and dashing
  • Faster item switching and an improved camera
  • Fully voiced cutscenes and more NPC dialogue
  • A new feature called Threads of Time
  • Ocarina songs you can play by blowing into the Switch 2’s microphone, as well as with buttons (Zelda Universe)

The original Ocarina of Time came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1998 and was remade once before, for the 3DS in 2011. This version is built for Switch 2 only, so original Switch owners can’t play it.

Our read: from our analysis of the fall schedule, Nintendo picked its spot carefully. November 5 is exactly two weeks before GTA 6 on November 19. That gives Zelda a clear runway with Switch 2 owners, who aren’t getting Rockstar’s game at all (Nintendo of America’s comments).

Nintendo confirmed the price at the same Direct: $59.99 digital and $69.99 physical in the US, per Nintendo Everything and Zelda Universe. We found the $10 gap matches Nintendo’s Switch 2 policy of pricing digital releases below boxed copies, so digital is the cheaper buy if you don’t need the cartridge. See what else lands that month on our Release Calendar.
