A remake of the cult 2004 RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is reportedly in development, according to a Reddit user who attended a Genitorturers concert at The Meadows in Brooklyn on October 15, 2026. Neither Activision nor the band has confirmed or denied the claim, and PC Gamer’s on-the-ground reporter flags that the band may have been referencing last year’s V:tM Bloodlines 2 rather than announcing a new project.
Where the report came from
Reddit user Few_Interview8222 posted on the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines subreddit that, partway through Genitorturers’ set, someone associated with the band told the crowd that “a V:tMB remake is happening,” per a writeup by Ted Litchfield at PC Gamer on October 17. PC Gamer confirmed that Genitorturers did play The Meadows on October 15 as part of their “Live + Lewd Tour,” so the timing lines up, but the publication says it has not found any second account of the shoutout. PC Gamer reached out to Activision, which published the original 2004 game, and to Genitorturers’ representation. Both have not responded as of the article’s publication. The same “X is happening” crowd-report pattern that powers most fan-submitted gaming leaks is at play here; the only difference is which subgenre of music released it.
Why Genitorturers would know is the puzzle
Genitorturers’ track “Lecher Bitch” was the diegetic theme of The Last Round, a downtown Los Angeles dive bar in V:tM Bloodlines frequented by the Anarch faction. The 2004 game’s licensed metal soundtrack is one of the most-requested features in fan restorations, and the band has had a recurring connection to the cult following. PC Gamer noted that this organic tie-in, rather than an industry insider pattern, is exactly why the report is hard to verify from a metal-concert crowd. The Last Round scene was diegetic (in-game nightclub) music. It was a feature Troika squeezed into a hard-deadline shipping schedule. That level of soundtrack integration is rare in any game, and rarer still in a 22-year-old one. It is the most plausible reason a metal band would call out a remake before anyone in publishing did.
The rights picture is “complicated,” per PC Gamer
Activision published V:tM Bloodlines through Troika Games in November 2004, but the underlying World of Darkness setting, including the V:tM trademark, is owned by Paradox Interactive, which acquired White Wolf Publishing in 2015. Paradox is the publisher on V:tM Bloodlines 2, developed by The Chinese Room and released October 21, 2025, almost exactly a year before Genitorturers’ alleged shoutout. The same overlap is the basis for PC Gamer’s most plausible alternative explanation: that the band was referencing Bloodlines 2’s first anniversary, a Bloodlines 2 DLC, or a wave content update, and the crowd heard “remake.” PC Gamer explicitly names “a confused, untimely, misinterpreted, or all of the above reference to last year’s Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2” as the most likely non-news reading.
| Stakeholder | Role today | What a remake would need from them |
|---|---|---|
| Activision | Original V:tMB publisher (2004) | V:tMB publisher rights (the game IP), but the underlying setting is not theirs |
| Paradox Interactive | World of Darkness / V:tM IP holder via White Wolf (since 2015) | Trademark + setting license |
| The Chinese Room | V:tM Bloodlines 2 developer (released Oct 21, 2025) | Likely candidate to develop a remake |
| Nightdive Studios | Independent retro/PC remaster specialist (per PC Gamer) | PC Gamer’s pick for “build on Wesp5’s work” |
What V:tM Bloodlines would need a remake to fix
The original launched November 16, 2004, simultaneously competing with Half-Life 2 and shipping with substantial content cut for Activision’s hard deadline. It sold fewer than 80,000 copies at launch, and Troika Games closed in February 2005 because it could not secure a follow-up project. The cult following runs on community patches. Most prominent is Werner “Wesp5” Spahl’s unofficial fix. The original game has never received an official re-release beyond the Steam and GOG versions that go on sale often. PC Gamer writes: “A Nightdive treatment would be my preferred outcome: build on Wesp5’s work and compensate him accordingly.”
What we know, and what we don’t
The Reddit user is a single witness, the band has not issued a statement, and Activision has not commented. The 2004 game’s IP has moved through publishers. The underlying setting has moved through Paradox’s acquisition of White Wolf. A “remake” announcement could come from any of those stakeholders and still be valid. Until anyone on that list (Paradox, Activision, The Chinese Room, or Genitorturers) confirms or denies the report, the most accurate read is: a credible-but-unverified concert-floor claim about a remake of one of the most-asked-for cult classic remakes in PC RPG circles, plus a one-band tie-in that explains why this crowd was told first.
The story lands in the same place every other “cult classic remake rumor” lands this year. The wishlist is loud, the rights picture is muddy, and the official channels are silent. The same week saw Shrek 2 Remastered leak onto the Xbox Store ahead of ID@Xbox, Telltale delay The Wolf Among Us Remastered on Switch, and Capcom drop RE 2/3/4 Remakes on Switch 2. That is the operating environment for V:tM Bloodlines if a remake is real: this is the year that “old beloved IP, modern port or rebuild” stories run weekly. The simplest verification route for this rumor is Paradox. It owns World of Darkness and has been the most active stakeholder in the V:tM brand this decade. If a remake is in the works, Paradox is who would announce it. If the next month brings no Paradox announcement, the Genitorturers shoutout reads as a Bloodlines 2 reference that a crowd heard as “remake.” V:tMB 2 came out nearly a year ago, on October 21, 2025. That kind of anniversary is the most common thing for a band with a niche soundtrack tie to call out at a show.
