Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises, a Halloween-themed live event for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive Pokémon Pokopia, is now live. The official Pokémon X account announced the event on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The mechanic is brief: surprise Pokémon around your habitat to earn pumpkin candy, then trade candy for festival-themed furniture and items.

The event lives inside Pokémon Pokopia. Pokopia is a cozy life-simulation game released worldwide on March 5, 2026 on the Switch 2. The studio pairing is unusual: Game Freak (the long-running mainline Pokémon developer) co-developed it with Omega Force (Koei Tecmo’s Warriors-series studio), which has experience with sandbox-building games like Dragon Quest Builders 2. Publishing splits between Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The game holds an 89/100 Metacritic score and 5-million-plus sales worldwide per Wikipedia. That puts it as the second-best-selling title on the Switch 2.

How the event works

  • Surprise Pokémon in your habitat to earn pumpkin candy. A habitat is the patch of land each Ditto cultivates in Pokopia.
  • Trade candy for furniture and items themed around a midnight festival
  • Items are festival-themed, evoking a midnight celebration

The Pokémon X post does not list a closing date or full item catalogue. Pokopia’s own website does not currently host a dedicated event page. Not yet announced: how long the event runs, the full furniture set, any new Habitat creatures, and whether the candy trades across the recently launched paid expansion pass. The first paid expansion, Bubbly Basin, shipped in August 2026. Two more parts are scheduled for late 2026 and 2027 respectively.

A Pokopia Halloween event fits the game’s pattern: Game Freak and Omega Force have shipped regular free updates since launch, and the paid expansion pass aside, most seasonal content is rolling live events. Nintendo Direct and The Pokémon Company framed the game’s launch as a long-tail experience built around updating the world for existing players. Comparable live Halloween patterns show up in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Definitive Edition on Switch 2, another Omega Force co-development, and the wider Animal Crossing-style Switch 2 calendar covered in Japan Weekly’s Japanese releases rundown.

For Pokopia players, four concrete points. First, the candy trades for “furniture and other items” only; no new Habitat creatures are confirmed. Second, no end date is named in the X post, so the window is open-ended. Third, the event is free for all Pokopia owners, with no purchase needed beyond the base $29.99 launch price; the August 2026 Bubbly Basin expansion pass is unrelated.

For example: between Bubbly Basin on August 2026 and this October 2026 event, Pokopia has shipped at least two free seasonal updates, per Wikipedia’s note that Pokopia launched with a “paid three-part expansion pass” alongside “free updates.” That reflects the cadence Game Freak and Omega Force signalled at launch, and Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises is the second free piece of seasonal content. Compared with the bigger picture of Switch 2 Halloween content, the launch of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on the same week has been the dominant story in our Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Editions Compared guide, so Pokopia players should expect a quieter rollout.

For Pokémon fans in general: Pumpkaboo (a Generation VI Ghost/Grass type introduced in Pokémon X and Y) is the only Pokémon named in the post; the X post does not mention any new Pokémon joining the game. Ditto is the player character, so the habitats players decorate are still their own.
