Gears of War: E-Day has a Halloween event on the way, but The Coalition has not announced when it starts. The studio confirmed in its Season 1 blog post that Halloween is one of three limited-time events in Season 1: Emergence, alongside 20 Years of Gears and Thanksgibbing. Each runs for two weeks, and The Coalition says it will share more on each event “as we get closer to their start dates.”
Quick answer
- Start date: not announced yet. Season 1 ends on December 1, so all three events have to fit before then.
- What’s in it: a Versus Event mode, a Horde Siege Event mission and exclusive rewards, per The Coalition.
- How long: two weeks.
- Where: Gears of War: E-Day is on Xbox Series X|S and PC (Xbox app and Steam). The Coalition hasn’t said whether the events need anything beyond the game itself.
When does the Gears of War: E-Day Halloween event start?
There is no official date yet. The Coalition’s Season 1 post, published on September 30 ahead of early access, names the three events but gives no dates for any of them. The newest official update, the October 14 patch notes, covers fixes for Ranked placement, the campaign and Horde Siege, and does not mention events either. We’ll update this page as soon as The Coalition, the Gears of War X account or Xbox Wire posts a start time.
What’s in each Season 1 event?
The Coalition describes the same structure for all three events:
| Event | Length | What it includes | Start date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Halloween | 2 weeks | Versus Event mode, Horde Siege Event mission, exclusive rewards | Not announced |
| 20 Years of Gears | 2 weeks | Versus Event mode, Horde Siege Event mission, exclusive rewards | Not announced |
| Thanksgibbing | 2 weeks | Versus Event mode, Horde Siege Event mission, exclusive rewards | Not announced |
The studio hasn’t named the event modes or listed the rewards. Anything you see claiming specific Halloween skins, modes or dates is unconfirmed until The Coalition posts it.
How long does Season 1 last?
Season 1: Emergence started with early access on October 1 and runs for eight weeks, until December 1, per Windows Central’s summary of the announcement. The Coalition says later seasons will vary in length and that it will give exact dates closer to each one.
What else is in Season 1?
Beyond the three events, The Coalition listed these Season 1 features:
- Ranked: Versus Ranked opened on October 13. A placement-match bug hit on day one, and the October 14 patch fixed it.
- Weekly challenges: they started refreshing on October 13.
- Shop: offers rotate every Tuesday, and The Coalition says to check weekly for free featured gifts.
- Never Fight Alone bundle: 100% of net revenue goes to Crisis Text Line.
- Gears of War: Reloaded rewards: the Fire and Fenix Pose for the “Prison Breakout” achievement, and the Old Guard Medal and “Locked n’ Reloaded” title for “Re-Up”.

What comes after Season 1?
Season 2 is called Legacy and is built around the series’ 20th anniversary. The Coalition also has a birthday gift for players on November 7, the day the original Gears of War launched in 2006, according to Insider Gaming and Windows Central. The studio has confirmed at least five post-launch seasons: after Legacy come Infiltration, Pendulum and Devotion. No dates are set beyond Season 1’s December 1 end.
The calendar gives a rough idea of where the events will land, though none of this is confirmed. Three two-week events fill six of Season 1’s eight weeks. Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, the November 7 anniversary sits a week later, and US Thanksgiving is November 26, five days before the season ends. If The Coalition times each event to its holiday, Halloween would start in the second half of October, which means an announcement should arrive within days.
