Dave the Diver is a 2023 indie diving and restaurant management game from MINTROCKET, and it is getting a Subnautica 2 crossover content pack in early 2027, Nintendo of America confirmed today in a Switch 2 reveal trailer. The pack will also ship on Switch.

In the new content, Dave and Bancho dive into the waters of Proteus, a planet pulled directly from Subnautica 2. They explore its seas, meet new characters, and help the locals along the way. The Nintendo trailer does not show gameplay or list specific creatures yet. MINTROCKET, the developer of Dave the Diver, posted its own version of the reveal four days earlier during PlayStation’s announcement window.

The crossover pairs two of the most talked-about underwater games of the last three years. Dave the Diver launched on PC in June 2023. It later came to Switch in October 2023, PS4 and PS5 in April 2024, and Switch 2 in November 2025, per Wikipedia. MINTROCKET has shipped a steady stream of free content packs since launch, including the recent In the Jungle expansion. The studio has not announced a price for the Subnautica 2 pack, and the prior track record strongly suggests free.

The same wider pattern of late-2026 content drops shows up in our other recent coverage: Hytale’s Chapter I, Heart of the Machine’s Kinship DLC, and Metaphor: ReFantazio’s Switch 2 demo. It is also why No Man’s Sky’s October 28 iPhone launch fits the same wave of long-tail updates to live games.

Our read: A free crossover with Subnautica 2 puts Dave the Diver back in front of Switch 2 owners right when Nintendo is pushing its hybrid library for the holidays. A Subnautica 2 fan who never tried Dave the Diver gets a reason to start, since the crossover is the cheapest way to sample the MINTROCKET formula. The Proteus setting also gives MINTROCKET room to play with the alien underwater mood the original Subnautica made famous. A 2023 game still adding free content packs three years later is the long-tail support Switch 2 buyers want, and the under-the-sea game slot on Switch 2 is suddenly the most crowded corner of the holiday calendar.
