Microsoft published, then pulled, a full Xbox Store listing for Shrek 2 Remastered today, October 16, 2026, ahead of the ID@Xbox Showcase set for Tuesday, October 20 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET / 6:00 PM UK. The page, captured by outlets before it was removed, names Aspyr Media as the developer of the remaster of the 2004 DreamWorks tie-in and confirms 4K resolution, better textures, enhanced UI, a new Photo Mode, a Cheat Mode, and up to four-player online, local, or mixed co-op (per PlayStation LifeStyle’s capture of the store description).

The leaked trailer on the Xbox Store page opens with a parody of the Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal trailer before settling on the Shrek 2 remaster, and ends on the Xbox Series X|S logo. Aspyr has not commented publicly, and Microsoft declined to confirm anything before the listing was taken down (per Game Rant and TheGamer). ID@Xbox teased an incoming Shrek reveal on October 15, which is why today’s listing surfaced now.

Aspyr Media is an Austin, Texas-based studio best known for its ports and remasters of legacy games (the Tomb Raider, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Sid Meier’s Civilization catalogs), so a tie-in remaster sits squarely in their wheelhouse. The 2004 original was a co-op action-adventure developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision on PS2, Xbox, and GameCube. The leaked description matches that core loop (“smash, throw, and kick your way against iconic characters from the franchise”) but with the modern co-op stack: up to four players, with Photo Mode for taking in the fairytale kingdom and Cheat Mode for skipping past the rougher edges of the original combat. It’s a port-and-remaster pair-up that runs alongside the Switch 2 remake bundles we’ve seen this week (see our Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes on Switch 2 coverage and the Coral Island Switch 2 announcement).

What’s not yet confirmed: a release date, a price, or any platform beyond Xbox Series X|S. PS5 and Nintendo Switch are widely rumored, partly because the original shipped on PS2 (so the asset pipeline exists) and partly because Aspyr has a Switch-port track record (which fits the broader Switch 2 port wave, including Cult of the Lamb on October 22 and PEAK on October 22). PC is also a possibility; an “unannounced Shrek 2 remaster” appeared in the September 2026 Steam Achievements leak (per Game Rant). All three of those should be cleared up at the ID@Xbox Showcase next week, when Microsoft is expected to make the announcement official.

For now, the Microsoft Store listing is the only first-party confirmation that Aspyr is on the project, and that the long-rumored remaster is real.

Aspyr remasters tend to ship on the platform holder that owns the IP’s tie-in window first, then expand. The Shrek IP belongs to DreamWorks Animation, now part of Universal, and Microsoft has a marketing window through the ID@Xbox Showcase. That timing (Xbox Store listing, ID@Xbox tease, no Aspyr comment) is the same pattern Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios have run for Aspyr’s previous tie-in remasters (Star Wars: Dark Forces on Xbox 360, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Xbox One). The PS5 and Switch releases, if they happen, will likely be timed to the same window so all platforms launch together. The September Steam Achievements leak listing the same title is the cleanest single-source confirmation yet that Xbox isn’t the only platform in scope.

Correction (October 16, 2026): We originally said Aspyr Media is based in Madison, Wisconsin; their headquarters are in Austin, Texas (per aspyr.com/about).
