Battlefield Studios walked into the Battlefield Discord today with a written response to four days of community roasting. Two Season 5 cosmetics went live on October 13 with what looked like a misspelled word on one sleeve and five pistol holsters on one chest rig. The team’s bottom line: the McNeil “Secuty” armband will be patched when Season 5 Phase 2 lands in November. The five-pistol Midnight Mirage skin is staying exactly as drawn.
For the typo fix, the Discord statement reads: “A correction update has already been planned for the Season 5 Phase 2 release.” On quality control, Battlefield Studios wrote, “Items that miss the mark like this do not reflect the quality standards you expect from us, or that we set for ourselves… We are currently examining our internal processes and workflows to pinpoint how these issues occurred and to see how we can tighten our quality control process going forward.”
The Midnight Mirage skin is staying because, the team says, the design was deliberate. “This is an intentional creative concept, a nod to over-the-top action movie tropes where an operative inexplicably has another backup weapon strapped to every spare inch of gear,” the Discord message reads. It also said, “we understand how this could look unintentional when released alongside other cosmetic anomalies.” The acknowledgement that the timing of the design matters as much as the design itself tells the DICE side to treat future Season Battle Pass surprises with more care.
Season 5 Phase 2 is the second wave of the Las Vegas-themed Season 5 update that ships in three parts. Season 5 opened October 13 with Vegas Strip and Area 51 plus a Dead Space crossover event. Phase 2 ships in November with the Secuty fix. The wider Season 5 roadmap, per DICE, has the European Casino map, a new event, and new tools on November 10, with map updates for Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City on December 8. IGN gave the Battlefield 6 multiplayer an 8/10 at the original launch last October.
DICE’s reply hits the quality-control note but ducks the bigger accusation. The X account @BattlefieldInte and a Reddit thread of memes drove the issue: “Because switching to your pistol, secondary pistol, tertiary pistol, quartenary (sic) pistol, and quinary pistol is faster than reloading, soldier,” one Reddit commenter joked. Players also flagged a separate bomb-disposal juggernaut skin with exposed-head armor and small-game-hunting mags for rifles that don’t exist in Battlefield 6, plus the X quote reading: “I believe it’s almost impossible to deny anymore that EA/DICE is using AI for the skins in #Battlefield6… At least in the concept phase.” Bohemia Interactive’s mil-sim Arma trolled DICE on X, posting that no AI was used in Arma and “yes, you CAN carry five sidearms in your inventory if you feel like it.”
The cosmetic-versus-canon pattern is back in force. DICE went on the record before launch to say Battlefield 6 would not feature goofy, immersion-breaking skins, then shipped a cosmetic pack criticized by the community shortly after launch in October 2025. DICE did not address how the typo slipped through or whether generative AI was used. We covered the same AI-driven pushback from three angles this week: Alliance Arts cancelled its public Drunken Goddess Reflux demo over AI-cloning fears, Konami’s president pushed back on AI’s role in his latest integrated report, and Game Freak shut down major updates for Beast of Reincarnation earlier this week because the small-studio bandwidth for AI-driven imitation concerns has gotten thin. The Battlefield 6 Rascal-by-the-numbers parallel: AI-fears patrols can move faster than a single studio’s QC cycle.
DICE has now telegraphed that it will only patch the spelling. Whether that is enough to quiet the AI-accusation side of the conversation through the November Phase 2 patch is the next question. The bigger test will be what ships in the European Casino update a week after, when the spotlight stays on the cosmetic-and-content mix for another fortnight.
