Arrowhead Game Studios has released the Noxious update for Helldivers 2, adding two new Terminid enemy types and expanding bug cave generation across the Galactic Map. The update went live November 4 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Terminids are the insectoid enemy faction in Helldivers 2. The Noxious Scavenger is a small, fast enemy that resembles ordinary Scavengers but delivers poison with every bite. The Noxious Spewer is a larger, hulking variant that moves with unsettling speed, spits web to disable sprinting, and has an unarmored abdomen that bursts in a Web Explosion when damaged.
Every Noxious bite inflicts a new poison status effect tracked by a HUD icon. Light poisoning hazes vision and deals damage over time; heavy poisoning increases the damage, disables sprinting, and further obscures vision. Stims cure the condition, so Arrowhead recommends rationing them for squadmates who wander too far ahead.
The Galactic Map is the mission-selection screen where players choose planets. Bug caves, previously limited to a handful of worlds, now have a chance to appear across more biomes on the Galactic Map, from scorched deserts to frozen tundras. Inside, sightlines are short and fast enemies arrive before you hear them, making close-range firepower and squad cohesion essential.
The Noxious update continues Helldivers 2’s pattern of free content drops that reshape the meta without a battle pass or seasonal structure. By adding poison, a damage-over-time effect that also disables sprint, Arrowhead forces players to rethink loadouts: stims become a tactical resource, not just healing, and sprint-reliant builds lose effectiveness in cave-heavy missions. The blog post explicitly states the Noxious Spewer’s web spit removes sprint to close distance, a new mechanic combination. The cave expansion across biomes also dilutes the safe planet pool, pushing squads into tighter engagements where the Noxious Scavenger’s speed and the Spewer’s web control the pace. For a live-service game that has avoided traditional seasons, this kind of systemic shakeup is how Arrowhead keeps the Galactic War feeling dynamic without a roadmap checklist. Our Helldivers 2 Scope of Authority Warbond guide covers the current premium Warbond, and the Easy Anti-Cheat switch in update 7.2.0 changed the PC anti-cheat layer.
Discussion question: Will the poison mechanic and expanded caves change your preferred loadout, or are you sticking with your current build?
