Wednesday morning brings the news that reminds you why you refresh the feed. Bethesda finally named The Elder Scrolls VI. Rockstar confirmed GTA 6’s pre-load date and file size. A bullet-hell roguelite hit 1.0 on Game Pass. The Game Awards locked in its December start time. Five games launch today, including Genshin Impact’s new version and World of Warcraft’s anniversary expansion. Let’s get into it.

The big one

Sentinel is the official subtitle for the next mainline Elder Scrolls game. The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel is real. After eight years of nothing but a logo and a mountain landscape, Bethesda and Zenimax revealed the full title Tuesday via Game Informer’s upcoming cover story: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The 18-page spread dedicates 12 pages to next year’s Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis remake. The Elder Scrolls reveal is the headline: a proper subtitle, confirmation the game exists in a showable state, and a promise of more details in the coming months. No release window, no platforms, no gameplay. But after Starfield’s launch and eight years of silence, a name is the first concrete sign the project isn’t vaporware. The Game Informer piece frames it as a “comprehensive deep dive into the 30-year history of Lara Croft,” suggesting the Elder Scrolls coverage is a companion piece rather than the main event. For a franchise that’s defined RPG expectations for three decades, any official movement is news.

The timing matters. Starfield launched in September 2023. Bethesda Game Studios has been quiet on Elder Scrolls since, beyond Todd Howard’s occasional “it’s coming” reassurances. Sentinel as a subtitle hints at a watcher or guardian role, fitting for a series where the player often stands between the world and its end. Whether that’s the player character, an NPC, or something else is pure speculation. What isn’t: Bethesda’s next mainline RPG now has a title, and the marketing machine has permission to start turning.

The gap between Skyrim (2011) and Starfield (2023) was already the longest in Bethesda’s mainline history. Adding another three-plus years before we even see Elder Scrolls VI gameplay means a full console generation could pass without a new mainline Elder Scrolls game. For players, this means the modding community will keep Skyrim alive even longer. The next game will need to justify a wait that could stretch to 15-plus years since the last numbered entry.

One more thing

Seiko and Kojima Productions teamed up for two limited-edition watches celebrating the studio’s tenth anniversary: one silver, one black ceramic, both with the Ludens mascot etched on the case back. The catch: they’re lottery-only in Japan, with a global raffle for 500 units each. Entries close November 10. Hideo Kojima wearing a watch he designed is the most Kojima thing imaginable, and somehow it still feels earned.
