Warframe: Tau Release Date: The Update Lands in December 2026

Warframe: Tau arrives in December 2026 on every platform the game runs on, and Digital Extremes is calling it “our most expansive update ever.” The studio confirmed the window on October 30, in a post on its own site and on Steam, alongside Devstream 198.

Tau is a binary star system, and December opens it in two places. Fornax is a mob-run ring city: black rain, a new faction of Sentient enforcers called the Fornax Drowners, and the Hunra running the rackets over casino tables. Portau is Warframe’s first original card game, dealt with suits of Blooms, Cores, Moons and Suns. Perita is the opposite mood, a desert that collapsed after the Old Peace, where feuding clans of Dazannah fight over what’s left and a chieftain’s son named Catulast is asking the Tenno for help.

The Tau Star Chart becomes the hub for missions across the new system. Digital Extremes says the Origin System keeps going, with more expansions planned across the Tau chart too.

The headline character is Brysko, the 67th Warframe: a noir detective with Matt Mercer voicing the monologue in his head, a Hound Companion at his side, exploding Portau cards and a Corecracker Exalted Pistol. His Chimera Skin is the first premium Customization of its kind, and you can flip between his Warframe and Chimera sides on the fly, the way Protoframes do.

The one-time Epoch Operation: Taubound runs until November 17, so that event wraps up just before Tau arrives.

Digital Extremes has not said which day in December it ships, so there is no countdown to watch yet.

What it means for players: Tau arrives inside the free-to-play game rather than as a separate store package. For example, the 67th Warframe, Brysko, lands with his own Hound Companion and the Chimera Skin, the first premium Customization of its kind. What to watch is the day: December 2026 is the only window published, so there is still no launch hour to plan around.
