Quick answer:
- Find your graphics card. On Windows, open Settings, choose System, then Display, then Advanced display to see the card’s make and model. Or open Device Manager and expand Display adapters.
- Compare it with Blizzard’s floor. World of Warcraft: Forever needs a GPU based on AMD Graphics Core Next 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014) or Intel Skylake (2015), or something newer.
- Know which way you land. Cards Blizzard lists as working include the Radeon HD 7850, GeForce GTX 9xx, GTX 750 and 750 Ti, and Intel HD Graphics 530. Cards Blizzard lists as no longer supported include the Radeon HD 6950, GTX 760, 770, 780, GTX 8xxM and Intel HD Graphics 6000.
- If your card is on the wrong side of that line, upgrade the GPU before November 4. Blizzard says the vast majority of WoW players already run compatible hardware.
- Then check the rest. The full minimum system requirements live on the Battle.net Shop, and you also need a Battle.net account and the Battle.net desktop app.
World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific, according to Blizzard’s pre-purchase notice. This page covers the one hardware requirement Blizzard has published in detail before launch: the graphics card.
What are the system requirements for WoW: Forever?
Blizzard publishes the complete minimum specification list on the Battle.net Shop, and that is where the CPU, memory and storage numbers live. The piece Blizzard has spelled out on its own news site is the graphics card floor. The new visual look of World of Warcraft: Forever needs a feature that older cards simply do not have.
Which graphics cards are supported?
Blizzard’s GPU requirements notice sets the floor by microarchitecture, which is the underlying design generation of the chip, rather than by card model. That is why two cards from the same year can land on opposite sides of the line:
| Vendor | Oldest supported architecture | Year | Example cards Blizzard lists |
|---|---|---|---|
| AMD | Graphics Core Next 1 (GCN 1) | 2012 | Radeon HD 7850 |
| NVIDIA | Maxwell | 2014 | GeForce GTX 9xx, GTX 750, GTX 750 Ti |
| Intel | Skylake | 2015 | Intel HD Graphics 530 |
Those example cards are the oldest things that still work, and Blizzard is clear that they remain “well below the minimum requirements for the game.” A card from the last decade is comfortably past the line.
Which graphics cards are not supported?
These are the cards Blizzard names as unsupported for World of Warcraft: Forever:
- AMD Radeon HD 6950 (2010)
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760, GTX 770, GTX 780 and GTX 8xxM (2014)
- Intel HD Graphics 6000 (2015)
The GTX 760, 770 and 780 are the awkward cases. They arrived in 2013 and 2014, which puts them on the wrong side of the Maxwell line despite their age. The GTX 8xxM laptops hit the same wall. For example, a GeForce GTX 9xx card from 2014 is on Blizzard’s supported list, while the GTX 780 from the same year is not.
How do I check which GPU my PC has?
Blizzard gives two Windows routes, and both take under a minute:
- Open Settings, select System, then Display, and choose Advanced display to see your GPU’s make and model.
- Or open Device Manager and expand Display adapters to see the graphics hardware installed on your system.
On a laptop with switchable graphics, check both entries. A desktop that reports more than one GPU is usually running the integrated chip on some displays, and the integrated chip is often the one that fails the test.
Why is Blizzard dropping support for older cards?
RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders is a graphics feature that GPUs gained around 2012, and Blizzard says World of Warcraft: Forever’s new visual look relies on it. The change helps support the updated visuals and gives a more consistent experience. There is no legacy path or compatibility mode listed for players on older hardware.
Should I upgrade before launch?
- Your card is newer than the floor, or on Blizzard’s supported list: nothing to do. Install the Battle.net app and clear some disk space.
- Your card is on the unsupported list: the GPU needs replacing before launch night. There is no compatibility mode.
- Your laptop has two graphics entries: check both, because the integrated chip is usually the one that fails.
Do I need new hardware to play on November 4?
Only if your graphics card falls below the floor. Blizzard’s own assessment is that “the vast majority of World of Warcraft players are already using compatible hardware.” The people who need to act are on old gaming cards or on laptops with 2015-era integrated graphics.
We lined up Blizzard’s supported and unsupported examples and looked at the years: the oldest card on the supported list (Radeon HD 7850) is from 2012 and the newest card on the unsupported list (the GTX 8xxM laptops and Intel HD Graphics 6000) is from 2015. That gap is the whole story of this requirement. A card that looks old on paper but was built on Maxwell or Skylake is fine; a card that was expensive in 2014 can still be excluded. That is why checking the chip generation matters more than the card’s launch year, and why the two-step check on Windows is worth doing before launch weekend rather than after it.
Does World of Warcraft: Forever run on Mac?
Yes. The official World of Warcraft: Forever page lists the game as available on Windows and Mac, and Blizzard’s hardware notice is written for Windows users checking their display adapters. Blizzard’s own site also confirms the game is “Included with an Active WoW Subscription”, so there is no separate purchase for the game itself.
Is World of Warcraft: Forever on Steam or Steam Deck?
No. It is a Battle.net launch, sold through Blizzard’s own store, and it does not appear on Steam, so there is no Steam Deck release to buy. The client Blizzard requires is the Battle.net desktop app.
What else do I need on launch day?
Blizzard’s own legal text lists the basics: an internet connection, a Battle.net account and the Battle.net desktop app. On top of that, World of Warcraft: Forever ships with the usual account housekeeping, and you can check the launch time in our World of Warcraft: Forever release time guide.
If you are still choosing between character and subscription, our WoW: Forever pre-purchase guide covers the “Classic Plus” design and the upgrade tiers, and our rulesets guide explains how Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and Hardcore realms differ.
Will my PC run World of Warcraft: Forever?
If your graphics card is AMD GCN 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014), Intel Skylake (2015) or newer, then yes, your PC will run it. Check your GPU on Windows through Settings or Device Manager, and compare the card against the list above.
What is the minimum GPU for World of Warcraft: Forever?
AMD Radeon HD 7850 (2012), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9xx, GTX 750 or GTX 750 Ti (2014), or Intel HD Graphics 530 (2015) as the oldest supported examples. Anything built on an older architecture will not run the game.
How do I check my graphics card in Windows 11?
Open Settings, choose System, then Display, then Advanced display for the make and model, or open Device Manager and expand Display adapters. Blizzard lists both as ways to check before launch.
Do I need to upgrade my graphics card before launch?
Only if your card is on Blizzard’s unsupported list: Radeon HD 6950, GTX 760, 770, 780, GTX 8xxM or Intel HD Graphics 6000. There is no compatibility mode for those cards.
Where are the full system requirements listed?
On the Battle.net Shop, which is where Blizzard points readers for the complete minimum specification list. The graphics card floor is the part Blizzard has published separately, on its own news site.
Is World of Warcraft: Forever a PC-only launch?
PC only, on Windows and Mac, according to the official site. There is no console version, and no Steam release, so it is a Battle.net game on launch night.
