When does Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos launch?
October 29, 2026, digitally, on every platform the remaster is coming to. Argonaut Games, the studio that made the original Croc games, announced the date in a press release on October 23. Its line was blunt: “development of the Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos remaster is complete.”
Argonaut is marking the run-up with Croctober, its name for a month of news, updates and surprises on the studio’s social channels. It started on October 1, with the launch itself as the highlight. Mike Arkin, Argonaut’s co-CEO, framed it as a return rather than a new game: “Players now have a date for their next adventure, October 29. This remaster brings together the original’s open-ended 3D platforming, enhanced visuals, and quality-of-life improvements.”
The remaster restores the full title Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos, the name the game carried during development, after the original shipped as Croc 2. If you grew up on the 1999 game, this is the same adventure rebuilt, not a sequel to it.
Which platforms is Croc 2 coming to?
| Platform | Where you buy it | Wishlist status |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | Nintendo eShop | Wishlisting opens October 29 via Argonaut’s email sign-up page |
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store | Wishlist available now |
| PlayStation 4 | PlayStation Store | Wishlist available now |
| Xbox Series X | Xbox Store | Wishlist available now |
| Xbox Series S | Xbox Store | Wishlist available now |
| PC | Steam and GOG.com | Wishlist available now |
That is six ways to play, and the launch is digital across all of them. Argonaut’s announcement does not publish prices, so the store pages are where you will find them. Wishlisting now is the cheapest way to get a launch-day notification, and on Nintendo it takes an email address instead: Argonaut’s Switch wishlist page promises to send a direct eShop link once it goes live on October 29.
What is new in the remaster?
Argonaut describes the remaster as the original with “enhanced visuals and a range of quality-of-life improvements”. The concrete additions it does name are movement and set pieces. Croc’s classic jumps and tail-spinning are back, and he can now triple jump for extra height. He rides minecarts, races cars and speedboats, catches air on a hang glider and takes to the skies in a wooden airplane.
The Croc2pedia is the part fans will argue about. It is an in-game digital museum, in the same spirit as the Crocipedia that shipped with the first Croc remaster. Inside it sit never-before-seen development materials and cut content, plus the 90-minute Croc2mentary, an interview feature with the teams who built the original and the remaster.
Argonaut’s release promises quality-of-life improvements without itemizing a single one, which is the norm for a publisher announcement and leaves the interesting question open. What can be checked is the shape of the package. It restores the original’s development title and its more than 40 open-ended levels, adds a triple jump and a bigger vehicle set, and carries a 90-minute documentary plus cut content inside the game itself.
For example, Argonaut names the specific additions: the triple jump for extra height, and Croc riding minecarts, cars, speedboats, a hang glider and a wooden airplane. Those are listed in the release, while the “quality-of-life improvements” are not.
That museum of development material is the reason this is more than a fresh coat of paint. It is something the original platformer could not offer in 1999, and Argonaut says the Croc2mentary interviews both the original and remaster teams.
What is Croc 2 about?
Croc leaves the island of the first game and travels to the mainland to search for his long-lost parents. The search turns into a showdown when Baron Dante is resurrected by the Dantinis and vows revenge. Along the way Croc rescues captured Gobbos and fights a roster of Guardians, including Soveena the Squid, whose obsession with Ginger Soda makes her a menace to contend with.
Jez San OBE, who founded Argonaut in 1982, put the shape of it plainly: “Croc 2 takes Croc beyond his first adventure, with four distinct villages, new ways to explore, and his search for his long-lost parents at the heart of the story.”
Four villages is the run of the game, and each one is open-ended rather than a corridor. That is the part of the original that aged best.
Is there a physical copy of Croc 2?
Not at launch. Argonaut’s announcement says further details on physical editions will be shared later this year, so a retail release is promised but undated. Every platform version that arrives on October 29 is a download.
Where can you buy Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos?
The launch is digital on Steam and GOG.com for PC, on the PlayStation Store for PS5 and PS4, on the Xbox Store for Xbox Series X and Series S, and on the Nintendo eShop for Switch. Argonaut links every store from its own Croc 2 page, and the PC version is Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos on Steam and on GOG.
Two details worth knowing before you buy. First, the game supports Family Sharing on Steam, so you can pass it to a second account in your household. Second, this is the second Croc remaster: Argonaut shipped Croc Legend of the Gobbos Remastered before this one, and the Croc2pedia follows that game’s Crocipedia model.
