Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer Is Live, With 3 New Modes

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is live. Activision’s official Call of Duty account posted “🚨 IT’S GO TIME” on Friday, October 23, 2026, saying the game “is officially here,” and earlier the same morning it handed players a Launch Day Calling Card to deploy with.

That closes out a staggered rollout. The campaign opened early on October 16 for anyone who digitally pre-ordered, extraction mode DMZ followed on October 20, and the competitive multiplayer suite is now open to everyone on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Our Modern Warfare 4 editions guide breaks down what each edition includes.

Multiplayer opens with 12 Core 6v6 maps, three large-scale 32v32 Ground War maps, four 2v2 Gunfight maps, and Kill Block, the modular battleground that reconfigures between rounds and supports 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight. Three modes are new: Inflation, where carrying more cash makes you a bigger target, Hijack, a one-spike attack-and-defend variant, and Collateral, a pistol-and-buy-phase take on Search and Destroy. The rest of the launch playlist mixes Standard, Alternate and Hardcore variants of Domination, Kill Confirmed, Free-For-All, Frontline and Search and Destroy, plus a Mobility Course for learning the movement system.

Two things are still on the clock. Shipment, the small Russian harbor map, arrives shortly after launch on October 27, and the updated “Call of Duty: Warzone” that ships inside the MW4 package isn’t playable today. Activision says that integration arrives with Season 1.
