World of Warcraft: Forever will not modernize its classes when it launches on November 4, but Blizzard is adding a small layer of new mechanics to the vanilla specs that felt “too simple” in the original game, the development team told TechRadar in an interview published October 10.

The team described the design as a “Classic Plus” experience built on four pillars. They are Nurture and Protect Social Experiences, Approachable and Familiar, World as the Main Character, and Journey before destination. The goal is to keep the original game feel rather than recreate the more elaborate class kits that arrived across retail expansions. “We want to err on the side of simpler classes, but with engaging depth,” the team said, adding that some WoW Classic specs gained a few new mechanics to fix the parts of the original design that did not age well.

Dual Specialization is staying at level 40, and there are no plans to go past that. Re-specs are also getting a strict pass. The first re-spec each hour is temporarily cheap in the beta, but at launch the price climbs fast and only comes down once per week. The team is trying to make talent decisions feel meaningful and discourage frequent re-specs that undermine the choice.

Balance changes are coming, but in batches. “When we do make changes, they will be batched up to all happen at the same time, rather than trickle in,” the team said. The early WoW: Forever roadmap calls for balance updates about once a week for the first six months. After that, the goal is “very few design changes once the game goes live.” For context on how live-service games evolve, our Steam player-count tracker samples Valve’s API every hour, though WoW: Forever is a Battle.net launch and will not show up there.

Our read: The interesting choice is what the team is willing to leave alone. The four pillars read like a bet that vanilla WoW still has the social glue modern expansions traded for solo accessibility. The re-spec restrictions are a way to make players live with the choices they make at level 40. If WoW: Forever is the test of whether the original game can hold a 2026 audience with the original rules, the team is signalling it would rather fail on the original rules than compromise them. The November 4 launch also lands in a quiet window in the bigger fall calendar. It is the first major MMO release of the holiday season after Gears of War: E-Day and the upcoming Planet Zoo 2 on October 13.
