Fallout 76 has reached 25 million players, Bethesda said on October 23, 2026. The studio marked the milestone during Fallout Day and thanked everyone who has taken a Vault Dweller into Appalachia.

A concurrent-player count is the number of people in the game at one moment, while Bethesda’s milestone counts everyone who has joined. The post does not break out console and PC players or give a current active-player figure.

Steam’s own live API returned 11,431 concurrent players when checked on October 23. That is a snapshot of one platform, not a replacement for Bethesda’s cumulative total. Our Steam player-count page explains why current and cumulative figures should not be mixed.

The concrete reason to care arrives on December 1. Bethesda’s official World Pets overview says the update lets players choose a companion, give it a name, customize its appearance and send it into the wasteland. Dogs, Cats, Radhogs and a Deathclaw are among the animals that can join you. Players can command a companion to attack, defend or follow, level it up and unlock perks.

The announcement gives December 1 as the update date but no launch hour. If you are waiting for pets rather than the milestone, that is the date to put on your calendar; Bethesda has not said at what time the update will go live.

For example, Bethesda’s 25 million figure covers everyone who has joined; Steam’s 11,431 counts only players online at one moment. The useful player takeaway is straightforward: Bethesda has confirmed both the size of the audience and a dated feature update that can change the usual solo run through Appalachia.
