World of Warcraft: Forever developers are weighing whether to give Oceania its own day and night cycle, after players there found that the remake’s 24-hour lighting leaves them in permanent night. The game launches globally on November 4.

Oceania is the region Blizzard serves with Australian servers, but those realms share the North American server architecture. The in-game day follows North American clock cycles, so a player who logs on at 7 p.m. local time finds pitch black, and a Saturday afternoon is dark too. The remake’s new dynamic lighting and rebuilt skyboxes make the problem impossible to miss.

The complaint runs deep on the official World of Warcraft forums. A September 28 thread titled “WoW Forever adds dynamic lighting, but OCE is stuck in perpetual midnight” opened with the reason: “Because our servers share North American clock cycles, playing after work means the game is locked in pitch black.” The thread had 164 replies and more than 10,000 likes when we checked on October 30. Its author proposed two fixes: detach the skybox cycle from the 24-hour clock so it rotates every four to six hours, or give Oceanic layers an independent regional clock so their daytime matches reality.

Blizzard put the question to its own developers in the official WoW: Forever podcast published on October 29, with senior game designer Josh Greenfield, lead software engineer Ana Resendez and principal software engineer Frank Williams. Resendez said Australia does have local server architecture, so the team could add an Australia timezone. She also warned that the day would flip from night to day within seconds when a player grouped up with somebody in North America. Greenfield asked Australian players directly how they would feel about their day and night changing abruptly, and said feedback would help. PC Gamer reported the exchange.

Nothing was promised on the show. Forever goes live globally on November 4 at 3 p.m. PST, so the lighting most Oceania players see first could still be the lighting they get. Our release-time guide has the unlock times, and what to do before launch covers the rest.

The developers were careful to frame this as a question rather than a plan, which is the right call with five days to launch and a player base that cannot vote on the outcome. It also means the day and night cycle may well ship as it is. The thread’s first option, a shorter lighting rotation, would change the experience for every region rather than Oceania alone, which may be why Greenfield asked for feedback instead of promising it. For example, the option the thread asked for and the Australia timezone Greenfield described are different fixes with different costs. Players on both sides of the Pacific would notice whichever one lands.
