The Metro Redux next-gen update, an upgrade to the Redux versions of 4A Games’ first two Metro shooters, is out now on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it is free if you already own Metro 2033 Redux or Metro Last Light Redux. Publisher Deep Silver announced the launch on October 29, 2026, in a press release, and said the update was already available on PC through Steam, Windows, Epic Games Store and GOG. It added that availability may vary by region on consoles.
Both games run at true 4K and 60fps, or upscaled 4K at up to 120fps. Deep Silver notes that the 120fps mode needs a compatible monitor or TV. Xbox Wire’s post adds that 4A TSR upscaling and antialiasing are part of the package, along with more detailed textures, reworked lighting and shadows, richer environmental detail and better animation.
Xbox owners also get Impulse Triggers support on the Xbox controller, plus optimization for Xbox Ally and Ally X handhelds and Xbox Play Anywhere support. Xbox Wire says 4A Games tuned the changes to keep the look and feel of the originals. Full patch notes are on the official Metro channels, so check them for platform-specific fixes before you download.
The timing is deliberate. Deep Silver pitches the update as a starting point for newcomers ahead of Metro 2039, which launches February 4, 2027. Xbox Wire says more than 50 million players have explored the series since the first game came out in 2010. We have not seen a size for the download, so expect to make room before you update.
A free update that adds 120fps and trigger feedback to two older shooters is an easy yes for owners. Anyone who skipped them has a clean on-ramp before 2039. For example, Metro 2033 Redux hit $1.99 in our Deal Radar on October 18.
