Warframe is a free-to-play third-person action game from Digital Extremes, the Canadian studio that has been running it for 13 years. The studio’s long-teased journey to the Tau star system finally has a date. Epoch Operation: Taubound opens on October 15, 2026 and runs for one month only, concluding on November 17. There will be no reruns, so the Tau Prologue quest arriving alongside it is the one piece of the storyline players won’t lose forever.

The operation drops Tenno (the game’s player characters) onto Eris (the Infested moon in the inner system), where they will run missions to collect a new resource called Moonflesh and trade it to the Sentient Mothership Praghasa for fuel. Eris is being opened to every Tenno who has finished Vor’s Prize for the duration of the event, with the usual Star Chart and Junction requirements temporarily lifted. Rewards include a new Syandana, Armor Set, and Amp Skin, plus daily narrative log-in messages that play only while the event is live.

Tau is the distant star system the Warframe lore has been teasing since the Second Dream quest in 2016. Separate from the time-limited operation, the Tau Prologue quest joins the Codex on October 15 as a permanent addition. It is the first time players can go hands-on with The Lotus in a single-player cinematic, as shown at TennoLive 2026, and the same custom Vessel players built at TennoCon will be usable on Eris’s surface in a new level that ends in a massive Infested boss fight. To play the Prologue, you need to have completed both The Hex and The Old Peace quests, but that requirement is separate from the Moonflesh grind.

This is the biggest Warframe content drop since the New War cinematic in 2021, and Digital Extremes is leaning on the cooperative hook: every player who logs in over the next month contributes to the same Tau meter. Microsoft’s XBOX LABS launch and Azur Promilia’s 20M pre-registrations show how big live-service games are leaning into cross-platform coordination this quarter. If you’ve been waiting for a reason to come back, October 15 is it. The other shoe is the Tau proper expansion that the Prologue is setting up.

What it means for you: Eris is the Infested endgame node, so bring your strongest anti-Infested frames (Volt, Saryn, Wukong) and a resource booster if you have one. The Moonflesh drops are mission-end, so any Eris node counts. The October 15 launch is on the Pixel Herald Release Calendar.

By the numbers:
– 1 month: the total window for Taubound (Oct 15 to Nov 17).
– 0 reruns: Digital Extremes has confirmed Taubound is a one-time event.
– 2 quests required: for the Tau Prologue (The Hex and The Old Peace), but not for Moonflesh farming.
– 13+ years: how long Warframe has been running since its March 2013 launch.
