Edge of Memories is a JRPG-inspired action RPG from French studio Midgar Studio, the developer of 2021’s Edge of Eternity. The game has been pushed from its planned November 5 release to December 3, 2026. Publisher Nacon (a French publisher known for WRC, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, and GreedFall) updated the Steam store page and console listings to the new date this week, and Push Square reports the developer explicitly chose the later window to avoid competing with Grand Theft Auto VI (Rockstar’s long-awaited open-world crime sequel launching November 19).
Edge of Memories had been one of the few mid-sized JRPGs willing to ship in the GTA 6 window. With GTA 6 now confirmed for November 19 (covered in our GTA 6 Game Awards eligibility story), Midgar Studio has joined a growing list of publishers pulling into December for breathing room. The new date lands three weeks after GTA 6 launches, putting Edge of Memories in a quieter holiday window against smaller competition.
Midgar Studio is a small independent team based in Montpellier, France. Edge of Memories is their second major RPG after 2021’s Edge of Eternity, which made its way to PC and consoles after a years-long Early Access run. The sequel keeps the JRPG framing but adds Unreal Engine 5 visuals and a new setting: the continent of Avaris, where a Soul Whisperer named Eline learns to control the “Corrosion” plague that’s turning all living things into monsters. The original Edge of Eternity soundtrack by Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade Chronicles) returns for a final theme, with Emi Evans (NieR:Automata’s vocalist) on the main vocal track.
The game launches on PS5 and PC via Steam on December 3. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet; the Steam page is still marked “coming soon” with no price field. Push Square notes a physical release is planned alongside digital. The Steam listing adds a 22 GB storage requirement and minimum specs of GTX 1060 / RX 590 / Arc A580.
Our read: Midgar Studio is the kind of small-but-followed European JRPG shop that gets crushed by a GTA 6 release week, and December 3 lines them up against indie-heavy competition rather than the biggest entertainment launch of the year. If you’ve been waiting to revisit the Edge of Eternity team’s work, this is the one to wishlist.
