Valve Cracks Down on Steam Submissions as AI Clones Flood the Store

Valve is tightening Steam’s game submission process after Steam Next Fest was overwhelmed by AI-generated clones and low-effort “vibe-coded” titles, the company confirmed on its official Steam News channel.

Former Valve developer Chet Faliszek said the storefront is “overwhelmed by slop” following the festival, with countless clones and AI-generated titles continuing to appear. Valve acknowledged the problem and said it is updating the submission review process to catch these titles before they go live, as first reported by GamesRadar+.

The policy shift targets games built primarily with generative AI tools that flood the store with near-identical asset flips. Valve did not specify the exact new requirements but said developers will face stricter scrutiny during the review queue.

No changes to Steam’s revenue split or existing game policies were announced. The crackdown applies to new submissions going forward.
