Rebel Wolves’ The Blood of Dawnwalker gets its 1.1 update the week of October 19, 2026, and it’s a much bigger patch than the version number suggests. Players are getting a respec system, directional animal petting, a FrameGen overhaul, easier difficulty, full subtitle support, and what the developer calls more than 1,100 other improvements and fixes.

Update 1.1 was revealed on the Blood of Dawnwalker account and republished by Bandai Namco US on October 16. Rebel Wolves’ post calls out a handful of headlining features:

  • Draught of Mind Rebirth is a respec system that lets players reset and relearn a different set of abilities, instead of committing to a build for the rest of the run.
  • Petting animals uses the same directional combat inputs the game already has, so directional stick flicks do the patting.
  • A new “Story” difficulty with extra combat assist, while the original “Story” mode has been renamed to “Forgiving” to make the gap clearer.
  • Larger fonts and a toggle for subtitles on all dialogue lines, two of the most-requested accessibility fixes since launch.

Under “changes and improvements,” the patch also adds a dedicated FrameGen settings menu. FrameGen is the frame-generation upscaling mode that renders fewer native frames and synthesizes extra ones to boost perceived smoothness. The patch also brings smoother camera animations and combat tracking, better target lock-on and disengage in combat, more responsive Shadowstep and Planeshift traversal, and the removal of the Japanese version’s blood-and-gore censorship. On top of the headline features, Rebel Wolves lists 1,100+ other improvements and fixes that the studio says it will detail in full patch notes on launch day.

The Blood of Dawnwalker launched on September 2 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and a first major patch was already promised for October in a previous developer post. Update 1.1 ships the week of October 19 (that window includes Monday, October 19 itself), and Rebel Wolves hasn’t said whether the patch requires a client restart or if it goes live silently overnight. We’ll update this post with the exact launch time and the full notes when Rebel Wolves posts them.

The launch-day FrameGen menu lands in the same window as Nvidia’s DLSS 5 rollout, which adds Hogwarts Legacy on November 5 and was revealed earlier in October. It’s a reminder that AI-assisted frame generation is moving from a niche PC setting to a default option in AAA releases like Dawnwalker. Bandai Namco’s other current major update is The Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 hotfix, which is the publisher’s other big stability push on a 2026 console port. For a recent pattern of how patch notes land in our news, the first major patch for Gears of War: E-Day had a similar rhythm: ranked-mode fix plus 60+ stability items, with the studio promising a second wave after the first one stabilized.

What to expect on launch day

Update 1.1 is a free patch for everyone who owns the game on PC (Steam), PS5, or Xbox Series X|S. The biggest behavior changes, from Draught of Mind Rebirth letting you experiment with new builds to the new “Story” difficulty, are the kind of systems update you only really feel if you’ve already finished the campaign or pushed into the harder fights. The FrameGen menu and the camera and combat tweaks are quality-of-life for everyone. If you’ve been waiting on the Japanese uncensored release, the patch lifts it on launch day for Japanese players.

Our read: Rebel Wolves is using 1.1 to do the work a “Game of the Year” update usually does. The studio is absorbing community feedback, fixing the rough edges that survived launch, and quietly bringing a controversial choice (the Japanese censorship) in line with the rest of the world. The Draught of Mind Rebirth respec is the single biggest deal here. It’s a tacit acknowledgement that the original build commitment was the loudest complaint from players who tried multiple builds. Two weeks is also the typical AAA rhythm between launch and the first major patch these days, and Blood of Dawnwalker 1.1 lands in that same window.

For comparison with other 2026 launch patches, the first major Gears of War: E-Day update was framed the same way. It was a ranked-mode fix plus 60+ stability items, with the studio promising a second wave once the first one stabilized. The difference here is scope: Dawnwalker 1.1 includes a build-respec system, an accessibility-toggle overhaul, and a frame-generation toggle in the same patch. That’s more surface area than E-Day covered in its first wave.
