Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 with 33 weapons across 8 weapon classes and 33 Operators available in both Multiplayer and DMZ, per the official “Ready for Launch” post Activision published on callofduty.com this morning. Create-a-Class customization unlocks at Player Level 4; below that, players deploy with premade Default Loadouts.
Every MW4 weapon and the player level that unlocks it
The 33 launch weapons split into 24 Primary Weapons and 9 Secondary / Melee. The official unlock level for every gun:
Assault Rifles (8): Han 86 (Level 4), M4 (Level 14), Hyeon Burst (21), Patriot XMR (27), Kastov 762 (34), Oden (39), Axion (52), Cronen Squall (55).
Submachine Guns (5): ISO Nightshade (Level 4), VEL 46 (5), Wz.55 Striga (18), PPSh-41 (30), X-58 Nyx (46).

Light Machine Guns (3): Finn LMG (Level 4), Type 73 (9), APOC-338 (44).
Marksman Rifles (3): MAR-9 (Level 4), Oris 8.6 (11), Mosin-Nagant (36).
Sniper Rifles (3): KG-7 Vulcan (Level 4), Astaroth .57 (25), Signal 50 (50).
Pistols (4): all four pistols unlock at Level 4.
Launchers (4): PILA (Level 4), RPG-8 (23), JOKR (43), PM-40 Anvil (54).
Melee (1): FSS Carbon Edge 1095 knife (Level 4).
Apex Attachments are the new end-of-grind reward
Every fully leveled Primary and Secondary weapon has an Apex Attachment: a unique armament that does not consume a normal Gunsmith slot and unlocks by maxing the gun. The post gives three worked examples:
- The M4 unlocks the M4 Hurricane, a bullpup conversion chambered in 5.7x28mm with a high-rate top-loading magazine that blocks Barrel and Magazine attachments.
- The Han 86 unlocks the Han X20 Skybreaker, an airburst launcher with a precision targeting optic that fires 20mm shells at a designated area within range; direct hits register as a dud.
- The Hyeon Burst unlocks the Hyeon Hyperburst, an over-locked receiver firing a blinding three-round burst before dropping into slow, controlled automatic fire.
Every MW4 Operator and how to unlock them
The 33 launch Operators split into seven groups.
- Immediately available (5): Min-Hee, CTSFO, Mil-Sim KSK Arctic, UCTF, Army SF Airborne, all from the South Korean Quick Reaction Force.
- Digital Standard or Vault Edition pre-order (1): Hunter Killer.
- Vault Edition exclusive (9): Ghost, Blix, Valeria, Price, SAS, South Korean SF, COM FST, KSK Amphibious, plus a tenth Vault slot not named in the post.
- Campaign mission unlocks (8): Cho (Mayhem), Dallas (Hired Gun), Luca (Traffic), Oh-Ji (Assassins), Kal (Defection), Dunn (Counter Attack), West (Losing Ground), Park (Decapitation).
- DMZ player-level unlocks (4): Reece (DMZ Level 4), Coffey (DMZ 9), Simone (DMZ 15), Hector (DMZ 19).
- Multiplayer challenge unlocks (5): Blackwell (3 Operator kills without dying 10 times), Jae (50 Hipfire kills), Velikan (15 Double Kills or better), Valen (20 Longshot kills), Zimo (50 Headshot kills).
- Other: Kyle (Call of Duty Endowment Valor Pack), Ju Kwon ([CLASSIFIED]).
Players can now assign an individual Operator to each Create-a-Class loadout via the Operator field at the top of every loadout. That is a change from older MW titles, which bound a single Operator to the whole profile. The MW4 multiplayer beginner’s guide covers how per-loadout Operators change the rotation for solo-queue and squad-play, and the campaign unlocks explainer lists the eight campaign mission rewards that feed into Multiplayer at launch.
What is not in MW4 at launch
The post notes Call of Duty: Warzone content integration arrives in Season 1 later this year. Modern Warfare 4 ships on October 23 without Warzone support baked in. In DMZ, weapons and Attachments unlocked or leveled in Multiplayer or DMZ can be equipped at the Forward Operating Base Gunsmith if a player has the DMZ Cash to purchase them. Weapons can also be looted during a deployment, built from a Weapon Manual found in Hajin, or bought from the FOB Vendor. The MW4 on Switch 2 explainer confirms the Switch 2 build, developed with Digital Legends, shares the same launch pool and operator unlock structure as the other platforms, and the Game Pass and PS Plus answer confirms MW4 is not on either service at launch (Holiday 2027 Game Pass arrival is the Activision-confirmed date).
For launch-day search, the level-by-level table is the asset that will keep bringing readers back: knowing that the M4 sits at Player Level 14 (not the default it used to be in older Modern Warfare titles) and the Kastov 762 sits at Level 34 means levelling choices in week one matter. The Apex Attachment system is the most significant Gunsmith change in years. Past Call of Duty titles siloed attachments per weapon, so unlocking the same magazine on a second AR meant levelling that AR from scratch. Apex attachments replace the old top-tier mastery camo unlock as the prize at the end of a weapon grind, and the official post frames them as the chase reward that survives past the level cap. Combined with the unlocked-by-default Operator-on-every-loadout change, the Create-a-Class loop at launch is more configurable than any prior Modern Warfare entry.
