When does Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World unlock?

Two clocks, both published by the stores rather than by a press release.

Version Unlock moment Where it comes from
PS5, Xbox Series X|S in the US 12:00 a.m. ET on December 3 (05:00 UTC) PlayStation Store US listing and Xbox Store listing
PS5 in the UK 12:00 a.m. GMT on December 3 (00:00 UTC) PlayStation Store UK listing
PS5 in Japan 12:00 a.m. JST on December 3 (15:00 UTC on December 2) PlayStation Store Japan listing
Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 December 3, no hour published Nintendo eShop US listings
PC on Steam 12:00 p.m. ET on December 3 (17:00 UTC) Steam store page countdown

The Digital Deluxe opens the same race two days early on both console stores, on December 1 at 12:00 a.m. ET.

What does “midnight local” mean here?

It means the download opens at 12:00 a.m. in your own region, so the launch arrives country by country instead of at one shared hour worldwide. Each console store publishes its own timestamp, and the United States runs on Eastern Time, so a West Coast player gets in at 9 p.m. Pacific on Wednesday, December 2.

What time does it unlock in the US?

Console players get in at 12:00 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, December 3. The Xbox Store listing carries the same 05:00 UTC stamp as PlayStation’s US page, so both console stores agree on the moment.

PC waits. Steam’s release timestamp of 1796317200 resolves to 17:00 UTC on December 3, which is 12:00 p.m. ET, 9:00 a.m. Pacific and 5:00 p.m. GMT. Steam players in Asia see that same moment on December 4, at 2:00 a.m. JST in Japan and 4:00 a.m. AEDT in Sydney. A Steam player in London starts playing in the evening of December 3, long after a PlayStation player in London has put a night in.

What time does it unlock in the UK, Europe and Japan?

Each console region flips at its own midnight, so the UK is in at 12:00 a.m. GMT on December 3, Central Europe at 12:00 a.m. CET and Japan at 12:00 a.m. JST. Nintendo’s eShop pages for the Switch and Switch 2 versions list only “Releases 12/3/26” with no hour attached. Those two versions are expected to follow the same local-midnight pattern the PlayStation and Xbox listings show, and Nintendo has not announced a launch time of its own for this game.

Can you play early with the Digital Deluxe Edition?

Yes, 48 hours earlier. Square Enix sells the Digital Deluxe as its own product, and on PlayStation and Xbox it carries its own release timestamp: 12:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, December 1. Advance Access is Steam’s label for the same deal, a pre-purchase package that opens before the full release, and the store prints no hour for it.

Square Enix’s pre-purchase announcement is where the 48 hours come from. It lists “48 hours of early access” inside the Digital Deluxe, alongside the main game and a DLC 4-ITEM SET. That set covers The Mega Mole Hole, Monster Marathons, Metallic Ring and Scout Run VIP Card, and the bundle adds a “Way of the Wrangler” item set with a Necklace of Animation, 10x Beastie Bites and 10x Seeds of Skill.

How much does it cost?

$59.99 for the Standard Edition on Steam, the PlayStation Store and Xbox, and $94.99 for the Digital Deluxe on all three. The UK PlayStation Store lists £49.99 for the standard game and the Japanese store lists ¥7,700.

Two purchase bonuses come with digital copies, and one of them has a deadline. Square Enix gives anyone who buys the main game or the Digital Deluxe by 8:59 a.m. Pacific on January 5, 2027 the Adventure Starter Set, which is 10x Monster Munchies, 3x Bonus Balls and 5x Seeds of Skill. A Hearty Meat Set (5x Monster Munchies, 5x Smoked Sirloins and 5x Meaty Treats) comes with any digital purchase on top of that. Our Standard vs Digital Deluxe breakdown shows exactly what the $35 difference buys.

Is there a preload or a download size?

Not yet. No PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo or Steam listing carries a preload date or a download size, and Nintendo’s product pages show no file size at all. The closest published number is Steam’s minimum PC spec, which asks for 40 GB of storage. It also wants a GTX 1660 or RX 5500 XT with 6 GB of VRAM, and our PC specs and Steam Deck guide has the full requirements.

Can you try the game before December 3?

Yes. A demo is live on Steam and on the PlayStation Store. Square Enix’s demo notice says you can carry up to eight monsters from your demo save into the full game. You need to play the demo and the release on the same platform and account, and only rank G and rank F monsters can be befriended in the demo. Money or items collected there do not transfer.

Which platforms is it on?

PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (Windows). Steam tags the game as single-player with optional online modes such as PvP and co-op, and it carries a “Cross-Platform Multiplayer” tag as well. Square Enix has not published which platforms can match with which, so that part is still an open question. Our release-date page covers the demo and the launch itself.

What is Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World?

It is Square Enix’s creature-collecting RPG, listed on Steam as developed by Square Enix and TOSE, in which two fledgling monster wranglers, Bianca and Nera, befriend, raise and synthesize monsters and then pit them against each other in battle. The game page collects everything we have on it, and December 3 sits on the Release Calendar.

We analyzed six release timestamps from three storefronts on November 2 and put them side by side. The finding that matters for launch night is that “December 3” hides two different moments: the console stores roll out region by region at local midnight, while the Steam build waits for a single fixed moment at 17:00 UTC. That is 12 hours after the US console unlock and 17 hours after the UK one, so buying on Steam on launch day means playing in the evening, not at midnight. The second number worth acting on is the Digital Deluxe, which costs $35 more than the $59.99 Standard Edition and buys two extra days plus four content packs. A pre-order placed before 8:59 a.m. Pacific on January 5, 2027 adds the Adventure Starter Set on top of that. What nobody has published yet is a preload date or a download size, so clearing disk space in advance is the one job that has to happen before launch night. We will update this page the moment a store listing changes.
