  1. Check your graphics card first. The minimum is an AMD Radeon RX 470 or RX 5500 XT, an Intel Arc A380 or an NVIDIA GTX 1660, with at least 6 GB of VRAM.
  2. Confirm you have 8 GB of RAM (16 GB recommended) and a processor at least as fast as a Ryzen 3 2300X or Core i3-8100.
  3. Clear 40 GB of storage. The same figure applies to both the minimum and recommended tiers.
  4. Make sure you are on 64-bit Windows 11, the only operating system Steam lists.
  5. On a Steam Deck, you do not need to change anything: Valve’s report rates the game Verified.

The game launches on PC on December 3, 2026 at $59.99. Our release date page covers the other platforms, and our editions guide explains the $94.99 Digital Deluxe Edition, which starts two days earlier.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World PC system requirements

These are the figures printed on the game’s Steam store page. Steam is the official source we checked for this page.

Component Minimum Recommended
OS Windows 11, 64-bit Windows 11, 64-bit
Processor AMD Ryzen 3 2300X / Intel Core i3-8100 AMD Ryzen 5 3500 / Intel Core i5-8400
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics AMD Radeon RX 470 or RX 5500 XT / Intel Arc A380 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT / Intel Arc A580 / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super
DirectX Version 12 Version 12
Storage 40 GB available 40 GB available
Video memory 6 GB VRAM or above 8 GB VRAM or above

Steam says nothing about target resolution or frame rate for either tier, so the table does not tell you whether the minimum hardware reaches 30 or 60 frames per second. Treat the recommended column as the safer target for a smooth experience. VRAM is the memory on your graphics card, and it is the number that most often decides whether a game runs at all.

What the specs mean for your PC

The minimum asks for a graphics card from roughly the GTX 1660 era and a processor from 2017 or 2018, which describes a lot of budget and older mid-range desktops. The detail worth checking is VRAM: the 6 GB floor rules out cards with less memory even when their raw speed is close to a GTX 1660. If you are on a 4 GB card, the listing gives no support for expecting the game to run.

The operating system line matters too. Steam lists only Windows 11, so a machine still on Windows 10 does not meet the printed requirement. The page does not say whether the game refuses to launch on Windows 10, so check that before you buy rather than assuming either way. For example, a Ryzen 5 3500 or Core i5-8400 with 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 2060 Super matches the recommended column exactly.

Is Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World Steam Deck Verified?

Yes. Valve’s compatibility report for the game returns the Verified category, and the checks it lists include a fully functional default controller configuration, controller glyphs that match the Deck, legible interface text and a default configuration marked as performant. That is Valve’s own testing, not a player report.

ProtonDB, the community compatibility database, has a single report so far, which it rates Platinum. One report is not enough for ProtonDB to assign a confident tier, so treat it as a first data point and see the ProtonDB page for new reports closer to launch. Steam also tags the game with partial controller support, DualSense controller support and Steam Cloud saves.

Try the demo before you buy

Square Enix has a free demo on Steam, a separate listing from the full game. Running it is the quickest way to test your own hardware against the opening hours, since a spec table cannot show how a specific graphics card handles the game’s art style.

Languages, controls and online features

Steam lists full audio support for English and Japanese, with text in French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Simplified and Traditional Chinese and Korean. The store tags include Single-player, Online PvP, Online Co-op and Cross-Platform Multiplayer. The listing says online features let you battle other monster wranglers worldwide. Square Enix has not spelled out which platforms can match with each other, so we will cover crossplay in its own guide if the publisher publishes details.

What we still do not know

  • File size on consoles: Steam’s 40 GB figure is for PC only.
  • Performance targets: no resolution or frame rate is promised for any hardware.
  • Windows 10: the listing names Windows 11 and nothing else.

We will update this page if Square Enix posts a fuller spec sheet or the Steam listing changes. For the rest of our coverage, see the Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World game page.
