NieR: Automata‘s November 6, 2026 Steam patch is asking PC players for roughly 366GB of storage to install. The game lists 50GB. Eurogamer reports that the file size jumped from about 50GB to 366GB after the patch, and that the update is not optional.

Square Enix confirmed the problem on November 6 in a notice on the game’s Steam news feed. It says the installation requires significantly more storage space than intended, that the cause is being investigated while a resolution is in the works. The company apologizes for the inconvenience. The game’s official Japanese account posted the same confirmation and the same workaround on the same day.

The fix for now is short. In Steam, go to Properties, then DLC, and uncheck each DLC item. The base game then downloads with the amount of space it actually needs.

The patch itself is small. The Steam update note lists one change: additional languages, such as Korean, along with Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. The YoRHa Edition is the version of NieR: Automata that carries the DLC. Eurogamer reports that a bug made every DLC item the size of the base game, so the new download stacks them all at once.

If you have been putting off a fresh install because your drive is full, unchecking the DLC boxes is the fastest way back into the game. You lose the DLC content in the process, and Square Enix has not said when a fix is coming or how the DLC will download at a sane size in the meantime. Until it does, the base game installs at its intended size with the workaround, and the DLC stays an open question. Square Enix’s next MMORPG expansion, Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold, launches February 23, 2027.
