Final Fantasy Resonance drew 27,813 concurrent players on Steam during its first day, putting Square Enix’s HD-2D RPG behind only Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake among the company’s turn-based RPG launches.
Square Enix released Final Fantasy Resonance on October 22, 2026. Square Enix calls the format HD-2D, combining pixel art with 3D graphics. The player figure comes from Pixel Herald’s own hourly Steam tracking, which began just before launch and recorded a high of 27,813. A GamesRadar+ comparison of SteamDB launch data puts the full launch-day peak at 27,933 and ranks Resonance second among Square Enix’s turn-based RPGs on Steam.
SteamDB’s figures show how close the next two launches were:
| Game | Launch peak |
|---|---|
| Final Fantasy Resonance | 27,933 |
| Dragon Quest VII Reimagined | 27,390 |
| Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake | 45,357 |
The gap between Resonance and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined was 543 players. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake was the outlier at 45,357, more than 17,000 above Resonance.
The launch count gives Square Enix a useful signal without pretending Resonance matched Dragon Quest III. It cleared Dragon Quest VII Reimagined by a narrow margin, which shows the HD-2D format has enough pull to bring players into a new Final Fantasy game. It did not produce a Dragon Quest-sized crowd, though, and these are PC concurrent-player figures rather than sales.
For players who were still deciding, the useful takeaway is that Resonance arrived with a real Steam audience on day one. Our review roundup tracks the critical consensus, while the live Steam count remains available on our player-counts page.
