October is packed this year. A lot of publishers moved their games earlier to stay out of the way of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19. Below is every notable release this month, sorted by week, with the platforms each game is on. Use it to decide what’s worth your money and what can wait. We counted the dated games on our Release Calendar: 20 land between October 10 and GTA 6 on November 19, as of October 9.

Our picks
If you only buy one: Gears of War: E-Day if you’re on Xbox or PC, since it’s included with Game Pass. On PlayStation, it’s Phantom Blade Zero. On Switch 2, Castlevania and the Resident Evil trilogy are hard to beat.
If you play with friends: It Takes Two on Switch 2 (October 15) is the co-op pick, and the free Cat and Paste playtest on Steam (October 16-19) costs nothing to try for a party night.
If you’re saving for GTA VI: try free demos and Game Pass first. Our GTA VI prep guide explains how much storage to clear before November. If something on this list goes on sale, our guide to spotting a real game deal will help you tell whether it’s actually a bargain.
Release dates can change, and they sometimes differ by region and storefront. We’ll update this list if publishers announce delays.
Correction (October 9, 2026): We originally listed Ratatan for PS4 and left out PC, and left Switch off Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. Ratatan launches on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC; Belmont's Curse also launches on Switch on October 15.
