Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 now has a full pre-season roadmap. Infinity Ward posted the breakdown this afternoon, with Shipment arriving October 27 and Season 1 starting November 6. The Call of Duty League and @CallofDuty re-confirmed the same dates, with the league’s official X handle framing the 2026-27 CDL season for MW4 as the “next era” of competition.
| Date | Content |
|---|---|
| Oct 16 | Campaign Early Access (Standard or Vault digital preorders) |
| Oct 20 | DMZ Early Access (preorder customers) |
| Oct 23 | Standard game unlocks on PS5, Xbox Series X |
| Oct 27 | Shipment returns |
| Oct 29 | Possession Mode (new) |
| Oct 30 | Infected Mode (classic) |
| Nov 6 | Season 1 opens with MW4 Warzone and Ricochet Anti-Cheat |
Infinity Ward’s roadmap also lists 18 launch maps (Kill Block, Coal, Reactor U92, Mumbai, and others across standard, Ground War, and Gunfight) and 14 launch modes including Hardpoint, Domination, Team Deathmatch, Free-For-All, Gun Game, Search & Destroy, and Kill Confirmed. Players can start learning those maps with our multiplayer beginner’s guide ahead of the October 23 unlock on the release time guide.
The gap is what Season 1 actually ships. Infinity Ward hasn’t said what’s in the battle pass, the new maps, the mode additions, or whether Operator bundles ship with it. CDL 2027 is similarly thin beyond a 7-minute “next era” teaser; no rosters, schedule, or format details.
We’ve got a busy few weeks ahead.

Campaign. DMZ. Multiplayer. Shipment. Season 1.
The road ahead starts with Early Access.

Shipment is the iconic 6v6 small-map multiplayer mode returning to Modern Warfare 4. Possession Mode is the new pre-season objective mode arriving October 29. Ricochet Anti-Cheat is Activision’s kernel-level cheat detection suite, now extended to MW4 Warzone in Season 1.
Our read: owners of preorders get a 14-day runway to grind Shipment, Possession, and Infected before the Season 1 reset. That’s tighter than Black Ops 6, which launched without a per-weekend mode drop and put its first season on the same 14-day schedule. CDL’s “next era” framing matters most for league watchers; format details will decide whether 2027 feels like a real reset.
