Phasmophobia has sold more than 30 million copies across PC and console, developer Kinetic Games said on Wednesday. The cooperative ghost-hunting game crossed the milestone in its sixth year of Early Access (a public pre-release program where players buy the unfinished game and help shape it). It is a 30,000-to-30-million climb from the 1,000 copies CEO Daniel Knight said he originally hoped to move in year one.

Crimson Eye, the game’s annual Halloween event, runs from October 8 through November 1. Each day, a rotating set of maps gets Blood Moon weather, a special event condition that makes ghosts faster and drains sanity more quickly, with higher payouts in return. The 2026 event maps are 6 Tanglewood Drive, Camp Woodwind, Grafton Farmhouse, Bleasdale Farmhouse, Point Hope (Standard only), 42 Edgefield Road, Nell’s Diner, and 13 Willow Street. The reworked Tanglewood and Willow Street get a new red lighting pass for the occasion.

Community goals unlock the Beholder ID Card and Badge and the Blood Moon Trophy. Personal goals unlock the Blood Moon Charm, an event tee, and upgrade points toward an existing Crimson Eye trophy. A Twitch Drop campaign runs through 11:59 PM BST on October 15. A Twitch Drop is a free in-game item earned by watching streams on Twitch: watch two hours of Phasmophobia streams to earn the Crimson Eye tee. A Double XP and Rewards event runs October 15-22, and the Ghost Hunts 4 Hearts charity drive with the American Heart Association closes the season from October 26 through November 1. Last year’s community raised more than $100,000 for the AHA.

Knight confirmed Phasmophobia’s 1.0 release is now slated for the second half of 2027, pushed back from this year. The slip was tied to a rocky reception of the long-awaited Player Character Update earlier in 2026, which the studio apologized for and has been hotfixing since. Phasmophobia is $19.99 in Early Access on Steam, PS5, PS VR2, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Switch 2 version still in development.

Phasmophobia is one of several indie horror games finding bigger audiences in 2026. It sits alongside Blumhouse’s Amanda the Adventurer film adaptation and the surprise Halloween success of other co-op horror games like Lethal Company. The studio has also expanded beyond Phasmophobia: Kinetic Publishing, launched earlier this year, will release the starship job simulator Contact Protocol in Spring 2027.

Our read: A 30 million-sales milestone is unusual for a solo-dev horror game still in Early Access, and it underlines how Kinetic’s slow build of seasonal events, Twitch Drops and charity tie-ins has kept the launch audience engaged five years in. The 1.0 slip to H2 2027 is the bigger strategic signal. Knight’s team is treating the next two years as the long goodbye to Early Access rather than rushing out a finished product. Crimson Eye itself is a useful template: the rotating Blood Moon maps, the cross-promotional Twitch Drop window, and the AHA tie-in all reward the existing audience without locking new players out. That is why a Halloween update can carry a 30-million-sales press release instead of the other way around.

By the numbers: $19.99 base price on every platform, 1.0 target now H2 2027, eight event maps for Crimson Eye, a $100,000+ AHA donation target to beat from 2025. The full Halloween schedule is on the official Kinetic Games blog post, and the release calendar tracks Phasmophobia’s 1.0 target alongside other big horror launches later this year.
