Amanda the Adventurer is getting a movie adaptation from Blumhouse Productions and YouTuber Matthew “MatPat” Patrick, Variety reports. The announcement landed at Blumhouse’s Blumfest panel at New York Comic Con on October 9, with Patrick confirming he has signed a multi-project deal with the studio to turn viral indie horror games and online horror channels into feature films. Amanda the Adventurer is the first project under that partnership, and Blum and Patrick said more are on the way.

The DreadXP puzzle-horror game puts players in the attic of a recently deceased aunt, where VHS tapes of an early-2000s children’s cartoon starring Amanda and her sheep companion Wooly slowly turn sinister. Patrick described the upcoming film as “horror with heart,” adding that Amanda is “a horrifying but tragic character” and that the story asks whether you can trust the media being put in front of your kids. The film’s pitch is “Dora the Explorer meets The Ring,” per Variety. The series has spawned two sequels since the first game launched in 2022.

Blumhouse and Patrick are in talks with writers and directors, and Patrick told the panel the team is “actually moving fast” to fill those slots. No release date has been announced. Patrick’s Game Theory videos are widely credited with helping to break Five Nights at Freddy’s, the same franchise Blumhouse already adapted into a 2023 film and a 2025 sequel, and Patrick himself cameoed in both, per Kotaku. The producers on the Amanda the Adventurer adaptation are Patrick, Jason Blum of Blumhouse, and Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald. Patrick has also co-produced the Tony-nominated Broadway play Grey House and the West End musical Your Lie, per Variety, so the Hollywood move is a continuation of his film work rather than a debut.

Our read: This is part of a wider YouTuber-to-Hollywood horror pipeline, not a one-off. Markiplier released his self-funded Iron Lung adaptation in early 2026, and Jacksepticeye is producing a Bloodborne animated movie, per IGN. IGN also notes Kane Parson’s Backrooms film kicked off a wave of creepypasta greenlights, including The Mandela Catalogue, Siren Head, and The SCP Foundation. What makes the MatPat-Blumhouse deal different is volume: this is a multi-project pact, not a single film. If Amanda lands, expect DreadXP’s catalog and other viral indie horror titles to follow. The same multi-game logic is also showing up at bigger publishers: Konami is already planning “second and third waves” of new Silent Hill games, and CD Projekt Red is doing a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film at Paramount (we covered both this week). The pattern is the same: pick the world, then bet on a long-running franchise rather than a one-off film.

Amanda the Adventurer 1, 2, and 3 are all available on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The first game, developed by MANGLEDmaw Games and published by DreadXP, launched in 2022 and is on the full release calendar of every notable game we’ve tracked.
