League of Legends opened its Swiss Stage today, October 23, at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. Gen.G took the first result of the round, a 1-0 win over Invictus Gaming at 12 p.m. Central. Four more matches are settled and three are still to come this evening. The Swiss Stage is the five-round phase of the tournament, where three wins send a team to the knockouts and three losses send it home.

Hanwha Life Esports beat TOP Esports 1-0 at 1 p.m. and Movistar KOI took Bilibili Gaming 1-0 at 2 p.m. Karmine Corp beat Anyone’s Legend 1-0 at 3 p.m., and G2 Esports lost to Dplus KIA 1-0 at 4 p.m. Team Liquid Alienware were still playing CTBC Flying Oyster at 5 p.m. when this was written, with T1 against LOS at 6 p.m. and Team Secret Whales against LYON at 7 p.m.

Three North American sides are still in the tournament and one is not. Cloud9 Kia went out in the Play-In stage, which finished on October 18, after a 3-2 loss to Karmine Corp and a 1-3 loss to FURIA in the random-draw bracket we covered before the first series. That Play-In was the only part of Worlds held in California, at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles. The Swiss Stage and the quarterfinals and semifinals are all in Allen, and the final is in Brooklyn on November 14.

Round 2 is Saturday, October 24, at the same venue, and Riot’s LoL Esports channel on Twitch carries the matches. The eight teams that finish today on 1-0 play from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Central, and the eight on 0-1 play from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Riot draws the pairings after every round and allows same-region matchups from Round 2 on, so the three remaining results decide who lands in which slot on Saturday.

One win in a best-of-one is cheap, which is why the second round matters more than the first. For example, a team that reaches 2-0 needs one more win to reach the knockouts, but it has to win that in a best-of-three. A team on 0-1 that loses again on Saturday instead needs three straight best-of-three wins just to stay in the tournament. The noon block on Saturday, where all eight teams on 1-0 play each other, is the one that shapes the rest of the bracket.

Riot’s other world championship finished on October 18, when LOUD beat Team Vitality 3-1 to win the VALORANT Champions 2026 in Shanghai. G2 Esports and T1 were in those knockouts too, and G2 won 2-1 and sent T1 home in 5th-6th place on October 11.

The Worlds Fan Fest at Pier 36 in Lower Manhattan runs November 12 to 14, ending on the same day as the final in Brooklyn.
