The League of Legends World Championship is officially locked in. Riot Games held the Play-In Stage draw on Saturday, October 10, after LOS beat FURIA 3-2 in the CBLOL 2026 Split 2 Grand Final to claim Brazil’s direct berth in the Swiss Stage (the round-robin phase where teams need three wins to advance). The four-team Play-In now has its opening matchups, and Worlds 2026 starts in five days.

FURIA will play MVK Esports in the first series, and Cloud9 Kia takes Karmine Corp in the second. The draw was completely random, with no seeding pots or regional restrictions, so any pairing was on the table. Only one of the four teams will advance to the Swiss Stage, joining the 15 already qualified. The losers drop into a lower bracket inside the same double-elimination format; the second loss ends their tournament. Every Play-In series is a best-of-five.

The Play-In runs October 15 to 18 at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, with all series as best-of-fives starting at 11 AM PDT (1 PM Central). The tournament then moves to the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, for the Swiss Stage from October 23 to 31, with knockout best-of-fives beginning November 3. The Grand Final is set for November 14 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with first game at 2 PM EST (1 PM Central).

Worlds 2026 will run across three US venues for the first time since the modern three-city format, and the field is 19 teams. T1 arrive as three-time defending champions. The format also has a new wrinkle: every best-of-three and best-of-five series is set to use Fearless Draft, where any champion played by either side becomes unavailable for the rest of that series. That alone reshapes draft theory across the bracket.

Next matches in US Central time:

  • Thursday, Oct. 15, 1 PM CT: Play-In opens, FURIA vs. MVK Esports and Cloud9 Kia vs. Karmine Corp (Riot Games Arena, Los Angeles)
  • Friday–Sunday, Oct. 16–18, 1 PM CT: Play-In double-elimination continues
  • Friday, Oct. 23, 12 PM CT: Swiss Stage opens in Allen, Texas

Cloud9 Kia is the only North American team in the Play-In after finishing third in the LCS Summer playoffs, and Karmine Corp is the LEC’s third seed. For US fans, the LoL teams with the longest road to a Swiss Stage win start in LA this week. Pick’Ems and Crystal Ball are now open at lolesports.com.

Our read: This is also the last weekend before the LoL major season shares the stage with VALORANT Champions Shanghai, which moves its final three days (October 16-18) to the Mercedes-Benz Arena (we covered G2 Esports’ 2-0 sweep of 100 Thieves yesterday). For new viewers, our beginner’s guide to watching esports walks through the Bo1, Bo3, and Bo5 rhythms across both events. The big US angle is that Riot is putting the entire Swiss and Knockout run in a single building in Allen before the Final in Brooklyn, so anyone flying in for a quarterfinal can stay in the same seat for the rest of the bracket.

Correction (October 10, 2026): We originally said Worlds 2026 is the first Worlds to use three US host cities in the modern era and the largest Worlds field at 19 teams; the sources confirm three US venues and a 19-team field but do not claim those are firsts or largest.
