Usual June is moving from October 28 to January 20, 2027, developer and publisher FINJI confirmed today. The studio said the extra time is to get the launch build in shape, not to dodge competition.

In a statement sent to press and posted to the game’s Steam Community announcements feed, FINJI co-founders Adam and Bekah Saltsman said the team “could probably get away with blaming this change on GTA 6,” but the real reason is making sure the launch build is as good as it can be. “We want to show the hard work from all our brilliant collaborators in the best light possible, and this extra time allows us to do that,” the statement reads.

The original date was set in the studio’s launch date announcement about a month ago. A new trailer was shown alongside today’s delay news at The Cozy After Dark Steam event, per FINJI’s press release. The Steam store page has been updated to reflect the new window, now showing just “2027” in the release field.

Usual June is a third-person action-adventure set in Fen Harbor, a city threatened by a mystery neither the living nor the dead can solve alone. Players explore secret labs, buried tunnels, and haunted observatories. They fight in fast, fluid combat arenas, level up to unlock new powers, and talk to a cast of 25 characters. They use the photographic memories of the dead and the living’s ability to touch objects to find out what’s happening before the ghosts disappear.

Creative direction is by Adam Saltsman (FINJI’s co-founder, known for Overland and Canabalt), with writing from David Pinckney, BAFTA winner Cara Ellison, and BAFTA-winning audio direction from Adam Hay. A free demo is still available on Steam.

The game is currently listed for PC via Steam; FINJI has not announced any additional platforms in today’s materials. A demo is live on Steam, and the studio pointed players to its website, Bluesky, and Instagram for further updates.

What this means for players

The move from the original date to the new one is a 12-week push, which is on the longer side for a single delay in the fall-to-winter indie window. The studio’s own language is polish-driven (“we just want to make sure the launch builds are as amazing as we can”) rather than competitive.

Where the new date lands is worth noting. No Man’s Sky is still launching on iPhone and iPad on the same October 28 day Usual June originally had, per our coverage of the Hello Games port. The Dave the Diver Subnautica 2 crossover pack is also dated to early 2027, per our write-up of the MINTROCKET announcement. So the new January 20 window now sits in a stretch with a few other notable indie and crossover drops, not against GTA 6’s shadow.

This isn’t the only delay we’ve covered this month either. The Star Wars and Marvel crossover shooter was pushed back after an ‘AI-First’ mandate, though for very different reasons. FINJI’s stated reason is the opposite: a small team that wants the launch build to be right. The studio has shipped TUNIC, Night in the Woods, I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, and Chicory: A Colorful Tale on its own clock, per the press release, and another few weeks of polish is on-brand for them.

If you were planning a launch-week playthrough, shift your calendar by twelve weeks. If you want something to play in the meantime, our Release Radar for this week covers what else is out now.
