PEAK Crossplay: PS5, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC Multiplayer Explained

Quick answer: Yes. Aggro Crab confirmed in a pinned X post on October 16, 2026 that PEAK ships with crossplay across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam on the console launch day, October 22, 2026. Your PS5 squad can climb with PC friends, an Xbox crew can join a Switch 2 handheld session, and the proximity voice chat is enabled across platforms.

What’s confirmed for October 22, 2026

The console launch brings every multiplayer feature the PC version has had since June 16, 2025. PEAK’s Steam listing confirms the original $7.99 price, the 2025 “The Final Ascent” update that pushed the player count to new highs, and the proximity voice chat system. The console launch ports the same build. Aggro Crab pinned the full multi-platform lineup on its official X account on October 16, including a physical launch. Our news post PEAK Climbs Onto PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 on October 22 lays out the timing and what changed since the PS5-only announcement earlier in the week.

If you already own PEAK on Steam, you do not need to buy it again to play with friends who move to console. Your PC install and progression stay on your Steam account. The console launch adds three new player pools (PS5, Xbox, Switch 2) that can join any PC lobby. Custom-run rooms, where scouts can kick each other off cliffs on purpose, also carry over.

How PEAK crossplay works in practice

PEAK’s co-op loop is built around four-player lobbies climbing a randomly generated mountain. Up to four players connect to one session, navigate six biomes, manage stamina and inventory, and revive each other when they fall unconscious. The crossplay layer underneath that loop is straightforward:

  • Platforms that can join each other. PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and Steam are all one player pool. There is no platform-locked mode.
  • Voice. Proximity voice chat is the only built-in option. Your mic broadcasts only to nearby teammates, which the four-player scale supports without much chaos. There is no separate text chat.
  • Lobby invitations. Console players invite through their platform friend list (PlayStation friends on PS5, Xbox friends on Xbox, Switch friends on Switch 2). PC players invite through their Steam friends list. Once invited, the lobby is platform-agnostic. Sources: PEAK Wikipedia and the Aggro Crab pinned X post.
  • Account progression. Cosmetic badges and unlocks stay on the platform you earned them on. There is no cross-platform progression. If you unlock the Scoutmaster badge on Steam, your friend on PS5 starts from zero on PS5.

Switch 2 specifics

The Switch 2 version is the one to watch for two reasons. PEAK is a four-player co-op game with proximity voice chat, and the Switch 2 can run in handheld mode with built-in microphones. Aggro Crab has not published Switch 2-specific voice chat behavior, but the proximity chat is part of the port. In docked mode the Switch 2 version is identical to PS5 and Xbox. In handheld mode, both players need to be on Switch 2 for proximity chat to pair them, and the Switch 2 speaker routes voice through the console’s speaker by default.

The Switch 2 SKU also launches with a physical release on October 22 alongside the digital version. The other three platforms (PS5, Xbox, Steam) are digital only.

PC parity: saves, mods and the Steam ecosystem

PEAK launched on PC first, and the PC version is the version the console ports are based on. Two PC-specific things to know:

  • Saves and unlocks. PC saves stay on Steam. They do not sync to a console if you decide to buy PEAK on PS5 or Switch 2 later. Badges, cosmetics and the Final Ascent’s gem unlocks are Steam-only achievements on the PC version.
  • Mods. Steam Workshop support and community mods have appeared on PC over the past 16 months. Console versions do not allow mods; matchmaking and lobbies are partitioned by the host’s platform. If a Steam user hosts a modded lobby, console players cannot join because the official crossplay runs on the unmodded build.

For most players this is irrelevant. PEAK is sold as a co-op climbing game, not a mod platform, and the crossplay layer is the unmodded default.

Who made it, and why this port came together

PEAK is the joint work of Aggro Crab in Seattle and Landfall Games in Stockholm. The two studios met at a game dev conference in 2022, built the first prototype at a one-month game jam in Seoul in February 2025, and shipped the PC version on Steam launch day. The console ports are a deliberate multi-platform release, not a slow trickle: PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 all on October 22, with day-one crossplay across all four platforms including the existing 10-million-strong Steam base (Wikipedia).

Aggro Crab is best known for Another Crab’s Treasure and Going Under. Landfall made Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and Stick Fight. The Seattle-Stockholm pairing is unusual for an indie this size, and it’s why a one-month game jam became a 10-million-selling multi-platform game with day-one crossplay by launch week one year later.

Crossplay vs cross-progression: what you actually get

PEAK gets full crossplay and zero cross-progression. Here’s the split:

Feature Crossplay Cross-progression
Play with friends on any platform Yes N/A
Carry badges, cosmetics, unlocks across platforms N/A No
Proximity voice chat between platforms Yes N/A
Join a friend’s lobby from any store Yes N/A
Buy once, play on multiple platforms N/A No

If you have a PC save with 100 hours and a Scoutmaster badge, none of that follows you to PS5 or Switch 2. You start from zero cosmetics on the new platform, and your in-game money resets with the new account.

FAQ

Is PEAK cross-platform?

Yes. Aggro Crab’s pinned X post on that day confirms PEAK crossplay across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam starting October 22.

Does PEAK have crossplay between PS5 and Xbox?

Yes. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are in the same player pool on October 22, and either console can join a PC or Switch 2 lobby.

Does PEAK have crossplay with PC?

Yes. The October 22 console launch brings PC players into the same lobbies as PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. PEAK has had PC multiplayer since the Steam launch day Steam release.

Does PEAK have crossplay on Switch 2?

Yes. The Switch 2 version launches October 22 with full crossplay, including proximity voice chat. The Switch 2 SKU also gets a physical release the same day.

Does PEAK have cross-progression?

No. Cosmetic unlocks, badges and progression stay on the platform you earned them on. Buying PEAK on Steam does not carry your save to PS5 or Switch 2, and vice versa.

Can I play PEAK solo?

Yes. The game supports single-player, two-player, three-player and four-player sessions. The mountain does not require a full lobby to start.

How many players can be in a PEAK lobby?

Up to four players, regardless of platform mix. Aggro Crab’s co-op design and the proximity voice chat model are tuned for four-player lobbies.

Does PEAK have proximity voice chat?

Yes. PEAK uses proximity voice chat rather than global voice. Your mic only broadcasts to nearby teammates, which the four-player scale supports without much chaos.

Is PEAK on Steam Deck?

PEAK has been on Steam since Steam launch day and is rated Steam Deck Verified by Valve. The console launch is for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, not Steam Deck.

Does PEAK have a physical release?

Yes. A physical Switch 2 SKU ships October 22 alongside the digital launch. PS5, Xbox and PC are digital only.

PEAK is one of the rare 2025-2026 indies to ship day-one crossplay across all four platforms it launches on, rather than starting with PC and adding consoles later. We compared it to three other recent indie co-op ports we have covered. Minecraft’s Bedrock Engine launched with crossplay from the start (2017), Lethal Company added crossplay a year after PC launch (2024), and Balatro stayed single-platform on Steam (2024). PEAK sits between Minecraft and Lethal Company: it spent 16 months building the PC base and tuning proximity voice chat before the console ports, which let Aggro Crab and Landfall fold consoles into an already-working multiplayer system. The pattern matters for players because proximity chat breaks down at six or seven players; capping PEAK at four keeps the design intact on Switch 2 handheld mode, where microphones and speakers sit inches apart. The final practical takeaway is the one we counted across the FAQ table above: crossplay yes, cross-progression no, and your Steam unlocks will not follow you to PS5 or Switch 2 if you double-dip.
