Supermassive Games launched a free online multiplayer mode for its sci-fi horror adventure Directive 8020 today, letting up to five players team up across separate or shared locations to survive aboard the spaceship Cassiopeia.

The new mode mirrors the game’s existing Movie Night couch co-op but moves it online, with two structures: Custom Mode, where you take the controls whenever your character is in play, and Round Robin Mode, which switches players on a timer. On-screen prompts reveal who voted on each decision before the outcome locks in, so squads can follow the majority or break ranks.

Each player needs their own copy of the game. The free update ships alongside a new silver space suit wardrobe for the five crew members and 13 new Premonitions collectibles, the classic Dark Pictures feature that shows glimpses of a potential future to weigh against your decisions.

Directive 8020 launched May 12, 2026 on Steam and PlayStation 5. The free online multiplayer update applies to all existing owners today; Supermassive hasn’t announced when the multiplayer mode will arrive on other platforms.
