Hytale‘s first major content drop since it entered Early Access nine months ago is live today, October 12. Chapter I: Out of the Breach adds Hytale’s first handcrafted dungeon, a multi-phase boss fight, a new Runestone ability system, and two minigames, Hypixel Studios confirmed in a blog post and a 2:42 official trailer.

The update kicks off at the Forgotten Temple, where a new Goblin Lab opens a portal to the Guttering Hollows, a temporary shard of Orbis the goblins have claimed with the Void pressing in at the edges. Players who step through the portal fight revamped goblin enemies, hunt for Voidheart-locked treasures, and earn more time inside the breach by upgrading a console in the lab.

The update’s centerpiece is the Deepworks, Hytale’s first handcrafted dungeon, capped by a two-boss sequence: the nimble Feastmaster miniboss, and the Gobliterator, the game’s first multi-phase major boss. Hytale also introduces a Runestone ability system built on a Runebinder’s Lattice. Avatars equip up to two Ability Runestones (the seven at launch are Fireball, Ground Slam, Wind Strike, Enrage, Imbue Poison, Chain Hook, and Charged Shot) and stack Modifier Runestones (eight at launch, including Colossal, Splinter, and Wither) to change how the abilities behave. The new system replaces Stamina with Mana as the resource bar.

The patch also adds two minigames: Prop Hunt, a Hider-vs-Seeker mode in a crowded tavern, and Shuffle Jam, a randomized playlist of 12 microgames (TNT Run, Memory Floor, Plot Painter, and nine more). The Deepworks and the Guttering Hollows are the update’s two new portal worlds, and the patch adds 100+ new cosmetic options, French and Spanish language support, and seven new tools and gadgets including the Scrap Glider, Rocket Boots, and Hookshot. A spooky button next to the boss chamber also unlocks a harder mode Hypixel says they “warned” players about.

Cursebreaker Edition owners get an extra perk: one free Standard copy of Hytale for every Early Access chapter Hypixel ships before 1.0, with multiple chapters planned. The Cursebreaker free-copy offer was first announced October 10, the same day Chapter I was first confirmed for today. The update is free for all existing Early Access players, joining a long line of in-development block-builders like Project Zomboid (now in year 13 of Early Access) and Outward 2, which finally exits Early Access on February 8, 2027.

Our read: Hytale’s first nine months of Early Access were a quiet build, with the Hypixel team shipping weekly updates but deliberately holding new content back. Chapter I: Out of the Breach is the moment that policy pays off: it is the first meaty, story-led content drop in a sandbox that has so far been mostly a foundation, and the multi-phase Gobliterator fight is the first real test of the combat loop Hypixel has been tuning since launch. With multiple chapters planned and a free-copy promo behind every one, the studio is effectively subsidizing word-of-mouth growth at a moment when most Early Access launches are cutting prices. For a sandbox RPG that has been the most-watched pre-release game on PC for years, that is the more interesting number than any sales figure.

Hytale is in Early Access on Windows, Mac, and Linux through the developer’s own launcher, not Steam. Hypixel Studios repurchased Hytale from Riot Games in November 2025, and Early Access began on January 13, 2026. Track where it lands on the Release Calendar and on the Steam player counts page once the studio opens up metrics.
