Metaphor: ReFantazio has a Switch 2 demo available now. Atlus is the studio behind the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei franchises, and ReFantazio is its 2024 JRPG flagship. The studio quietly rolled out a Prologue Demo on the Switch 2 eShop in Japan and Australia today, October 12, with downloads due to appear in other regions over the next day. The full game follows on November 12, just over two years after its October 11, 2024 launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
On other platforms, the Prologue Demo covers the opening section of the RPG, and save data carries into the full release. According to Polygon, it ends when players reach a certain point in the story or after three in-game days pass, whichever comes first. RPG Site notes Atlus hasn’t yet confirmed exactly what the Switch 2 demo includes. The Switch 2 download is 29.8 GB, per RPG Site. Pre-orders are open on the same eShop pages.
The Switch 2 version arrives just over two years after the other versions, but Atlus’s next releases won’t make Switch 2 owners wait that long. Persona 4 Revival hits Switch 2 on May 20, 2027, and Atlus has confirmed that Persona 6 will also reach the console. Sega has announced that Persona 6’s Switch 2 release will get a physical edition. Persona 4 Revival’s Switch 2 date is three months after the other platforms, Polygon notes, which is a much shorter wait than ReFantazio’s.
For anyone on the fence, the demo is the cheapest way to find out whether ReFantazio’s mix of turn-based and real-time combat clicks before the full game arrives on November 12. Pre-orders are already live, and the release is on our Release Calendar. This week’s other launches are in the Pixel Herald Release Radar.
Our read: ReFantazio is one of 2024’s most decorated JRPGs (the Steam page cites more than 50 awards, and RPG Site named it its RPG of the Year), and a demo whose saves carry over is a meaningful trial for Switch 2 players who missed it the first time. The two-year wait is long, but with Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 also heading to Switch 2, it looks like Atlus is now treating Nintendo’s console as a regular home for its games.
