STUDIO 909, a Japanese indie studio formed specifically to develop Quiet Express: Cabin 909, released a ~30-minute demo on Steam today with English text alongside Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.

The full game is slated for 2027. Director Kazuhide Oka previously directed the visual novels Girls Made Pudding and Natsu no Kanata, and the credits list English translation by Marco Godano.

Quiet Express: Cabin 909 is a mystery adventure set on a seven-day cross-continent railway. Players wake up in the rearmost cabin and search for “Cabin 909,” a cabin that doesn’t appear on any passenger manifest. Every door leads to one of three randomly selected cabins (passenger, restaurant, storage, and others). Rearranging the train’s connections opens new paths. The journey loops every seven days: the train derails just before the final station, killing everyone on board. The player wakes up on day one again, with the goal of breaking the cycle.

STUDIO 909 is a graduate of Japan’s METI-backed indie accelerator program 創風 (Soufu), selected for both the program’s second and third cohorts. Soufu is the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s program for Japanese indie studios that pairs developers with publishers and offers demo stages at BitSummit, Tokyo Game Show, and Tokyo Game Dungeon. The studio showed playable builds at BitSummit PUNCH!, HYPER JAPAN Festival 2026, Tokyo Game Dungeon 13, and Tokyo Game Show 2026 before releasing today’s online demo.

Can you play it in English?

Yes. The Steam page lists English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean as supported languages, and the demo’s full text has been translated by Marco Godano. There is no Japanese-only barrier; the only language missing is audio, since the studio’s visual-novel approach means there’s almost no spoken dialogue to translate. Switch and PlayStation versions are not yet announced.

The October 16 demo drop lands inside a busy stretch for Japan-first narrative releases on Pixel Herald’s radar: PUKEY GODDESS SHOT TRICK (Steam page in English, December 8 Japan release), Where the Seeds Fall (CygamesEdge debut on November 5 worldwide), and Roco Kingdom’s closed beta (Tencent’s monster-collecting RPG, beta October 27). Compared to PUKEY’s “English Steam date still TBA,” STUDIO 909 has committed to a 2027 launch and shipped an English-translated demo 12 months ahead — a tighter localization timeline than most Soufu alumni manage. The 30-minute demo length, the Steam Achievements integration, and the full credits list (with named translators) match the Soufu program’s playbook for preparing a Western-facing launch.
