Roco Kingdom (ロコキングダム), a free-to-play open-world monster-collecting RPG from Morefun Studios (a subsidiary of Tencent Games), dropped a new Japanese-language trailer on October 15. The trailer reveals fresh biomes and dozens of the 400-plus creatures called “Jinies” (ジニ) that drive its catching and battling loop. It also confirmed a closed beta will start October 27, with sign-ups open now on the official site.
In Roco Kingdom, players take the role of a “Roco,” an apprentice wizard enrolling at the game’s magic academy on the continent of Carosia. The new footage highlights dry plains, snowfields and a cityscape, each populated by Jinies adapted to that environment. Catching isn’t trivial. Players throw a “pod” at wild Jinies, but some vanish on impact or deflect the orb back. One trailer highlight: a musclebound Jini that tries to slap the player character, which is a reminder that catching has a sense of humor.
Captured Jinies can also be pitted against other players in PvP (player-versus-player) matches to climb a ranked ladder, on top of the academy events and slice-of-life elements the trailer teased. Closed beta registration is open via the official site, with the test scheduled to begin October 27.
Roco Kingdom is planned for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, the official launcher), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS and Android. The official Steam page is currently live with Asian-language assets attached. Morefun Studios has not yet announced a formal release date for any region.
Can you play it in English?
Probably, eventually. An English-language X account, @RocoKingdomEN, has been actively posting about the game since August: catch tutorials, biome walkthroughs, and “Jini Field Logs.” Morefun Studios already lists Roco Kingdom as part of its global publishing lineup, alongside the PC shooters Arena Breakout: Infinite and The Hidden Ones. The Steam page supports Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian and Malay.
Roco Kingdom is the latest in a busy open-world monster-collecting corner of 2026. December already brings Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, with Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2 just ahead on the same calendar. No formal Western release date has been announced for Roco Kingdom. The active global social push and the multi-storefront PC distribution suggest the global launch will follow the closed beta rather than trail it by months.
Our read: This is the kind of “first in English” story the Japan desk likes to catch. The fresh trailer dropped only on Japanese outlets this morning, with no Gematsu/Siliconera/Automaton-English pickup. Morefun Studios has shipped free-to-play multiplayer hits on PC before, which lowers the “will this ever leave China?” risk for Western players waiting on a date. For now there’s nothing to point readers at beyond the closed beta registration page and the Oct 27 start window. We previously broke similar early-look stories like Gundam Blitz Order and the Arc System Works TAKUMI studio; this one fits the same mold.
