Quick answer: GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Same date, no confirmed crossplay between the two consoles, no announced cross-progression, no PC version at launch. Every cross-platform question that comes up before launch has the same official answer right now: not announced.
What’s confirmed: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, November 19
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the launch platforms. The PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store pre-order pages carry only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S SKUs. Take-Two’s 2026 investor commentary and Rockstar’s own pre-launch press have not added a PC, Switch 2 or mobile row. Two editions are on sale at launch, Standard $79.99 and Ultimate $99.99, both limited to the same two consoles. See our GTA 6 Editions Compared guide and the GTA 6 release date page for the details.
The single platform announcement means there is no separate PC or Switch 2 player base to consider on day one. If you own a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S, you can play on launch day. If you don’t own either, the GTA 6 hub tracks every option as Rockstar announces them.
What’s NOT confirmed: crossplay, cross-progression, cross-buy
Three cross-platform questions dominate GTA 6 search traffic. None of them has a yes or no answer from Rockstar right now:
- PS5 to Xbox crossplay. Not announced. Rockstar has issued no press release, no Newswire post, no social media statement about crossplay between the two launch consoles. The closest thing to a confirmation is silence. Rockstar has historically not added crossplay to live multiplayer titles, and that pattern is documented below.
- Cross-progression (cross-save). Not announced. Save data for the GTA 6 single-player campaign is expected to be tied to the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account you play on, with no announced way to carry progress between the two ecosystems.
- Cross-buy (buy once, get both). Not announced. Rockstar’s previous multiplayer titles have never shipped a cross-buy arrangement between PS5 and Xbox, and GTA 6 has no official cross-buy offer.
What Rockstar has said publicly is consistent with staggered platform releases. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick told analysts in 2026 that Take-Two “tends not to ‘go across all platforms simultaneously’,” a line that has aged into the standard answer whenever anyone asks about a Rockstar PC version.
Rockstar’s track record: no crossplay in GTA Online, RDR Online or Max Payne 3
Rockstar has shipped five multiplayer or live-service titles since 2010. None of them has crossplay between platforms as of October 17, 2026.
| Game | Platforms | Crossplay status |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto Online | PS3, Xbox 360, PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X and S | No crossplay between any platforms. PS5 and Xbox Series X and S launched March 15, 2022 still split. |
| Red Dead Online | PS4, Xbox One, PC | No crossplay. PC launched separately November 2019. |
| Max Payne 3 multiplayer | PS3, Xbox 360, PC | Separate servers, no crossplay. |
| GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition | Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PC | No multiplayer, no crossplay question. |
| L.A. Noire remastered | Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PC | Single-player, no crossplay question. |

GTA Online is the most relevant precedent. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions shipped on March 15, 2022, more than four years before GTA 6 launches, and they still run on separate servers. If Rockstar was going to add crossplay to its flagship live-service game before GTA 6, that window has closed. The same is true of RDR Online, which launched in beta on PS4 and Xbox One in May 2019 before reaching PC in November 2019. Every platform plays with itself only.
PC status: reported Q1 2027, not announced
The only public timing for a PC version is the GamesBeat report from October 13, 2026: a Q1 2027 PC launch window (January through March 2027), citing four unnamed industry sources. Rockstar declined to comment on the report, and Take-Two has not addressed it on earnings calls.
A Q1 2027 PC release, if it holds, would be the shortest console-to-PC gap for any Rockstar single-player release since L.A. Noire in 2011 (6 months). GTA V took about 19 months, RDR2 about 13 months (October 26, 2018 to November 5, 2019), Max Payne 3 launched simultaneously in 2012. Our full breakdown is in the Is GTA 6 on PC? PC Release Date Status Explained page.
What this means for crossplay between consoles and PC: there is no PC version on November 19, so the question is whether GTA 6 will get crossplay once PC arrives in (reportedly) Q1 2027. Rockstar has not addressed that scenario.
What GTA+ covers (and what it doesn’t)
Rockstar’s subscription service GTA+ has been live since March 2022 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it carries monthly GTA Online bonuses, free in-game cash, and member-only discounts. It does not include mainline GTA campaign access, and it does not enable cross-progression between platforms. It follows the linked Social Club account, not the platform you’re playing on. If a friend has GTA+ on PS5 and you have it on Xbox, you can both subscribe, but your GTA Online progress still lives on the platform you played it on.
Will Rockstar add crossplay later?
No public statement. The honest summary, based on Rockstar’s five shipped multiplayer titles and Zelnick’s “not all platforms simultaneously” line, is that crossplay is a feature Rockstar has historically declined to ship rather than committed to ship late. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible. RDR2’s PC port added no crossplay and GTA 5 has lived without it for over a decade. But the burden of proof is on Rockstar to announce it, not on players to assume it.
FAQ
Is GTA 6 cross-platform between PS5 and Xbox?
Not announced. Rockstar’s GTA VI page lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as separate launch platforms with no crossplay language. No press release, Newswire post or official social media statement has confirmed PS5 to Xbox crossplay.
Does GTA 6 have cross-progression?
Not announced. Cross-progression (carrying save data between PS5 and Xbox accounts) has not been confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two. GTA Online, Rockstar’s flagship multiplayer game, still runs on separate servers across PS5, Xbox, and PC after more than four years on current-gen.
Will GTA 6 be on PC?
Not at launch. Rockstar has announced only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for November 19, 2026. GamesBeat reported a Q1 2027 PC launch on October 13, 2026, citing four unnamed industry sources. Rockstar declined to comment.
Will GTA 6 be on Switch 2?
Not announced. Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard told Variety in October 2026 that any GTA 6 Switch 2 version is “a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar,” with no release date or development confirmation. We covered that exchange in the Nintendo of America President on GTA 6 for Switch 2 news post.
Can I buy GTA 6 once and play on both PS5 and Xbox?
Not announced. There is no confirmed cross-buy arrangement between PS5 and Xbox for GTA 6, and Rockstar has not shipped cross-buy on any prior multiplayer title.
Will GTA 6’s online mode (if there is one) support crossplay?
Unannounced. Rockstar has not confirmed whether GTA 6 will ship with a standalone online mode at all, and even if it does, Rockstar’s history points to separate platform servers. GTA Online, RDR Online and Max Payne 3 multiplayer all remain split across platforms.
Does GTA+ give crossplay or cross-progression?
No. GTA+ is Rockstar’s subscription service with monthly GTA Online bonuses and Shark Cards. It does not include mainline campaign access and does not sync progress between platforms.
The pattern across every Rockstar multiplayer release since 2010 is consistent: separate platforms, separate servers, no announced crossplay years after launch. GTA 6’s launch lineup of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC version reported for Q1 2027 and a Switch 2 version that Nintendo of America has openly punted to Rockstar, lines up with Take-Two’s stated preference for staggered platform releases. We counted three separate Rockstar multiplayer titles without crossplay (GTA Online across three console generations and PC, RDR Online across PS4/Xbox One and PC, Max Payne 3 multiplayer) and zero examples of Rockstar adding crossplay after launch. The most likely outcome on November 19 is two parallel ecosystems. PS5 players with PS5 players, Xbox players with Xbox players, and GTA+ as the only thing that runs across the two. If Rockstar does announce crossplay or cross-progression, the GTA 6 hub and this page will be updated the same day.
