Rockstar Games released the official launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI on its YouTube channel today, 35 days before the game’s November 19, 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The 90-second cut, captured in-engine, opens on protagonist Jason in prison taking a call from Lucia. From there it cuts to a montage of high-tech heists across Leonida, the series’ fictional Florida setting, and ends with a first look at quieter beats between the two leads, including a shared shower where Lucia’s ankle monitor is clearly visible on her ankle.
The trailer’s biggest new story beat is Jason’s discharge from the army, which arrives without explanation in his opening prison call. Per Polygon, the cut also includes heist gear “that would look right at home in a Call of Duty game,” the kind of tactical detail Rockstar usually saves for hands-on previews. Polygon’s read of the trailer confirms Lucia’s ankle monitor runs throughout the 90 seconds, suggesting her sentence is still active when the story opens, a thread Rockstar has kept close to the chest since the first trailer in December 2023.
The trailer lands the same week Take-Two confirmed GTA VI will squeak into The Game Awards’ 2026 eligibility window: games shipping on or before November 20, 2026 at 9 p.m. PT qualify, per the show’s FAQ, and GTA VI’s November 19 launch sits a single day inside that cutoff. Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 holds the record for most wins at a single Game Awards show with nine in 2025. GTA VI is widely expected to challenge that record, and the rumored online mode and PC port will likely return it to contention at the 2027 ceremony. PC players have no release date yet; GTA 5 reached PC roughly 19 months after its console debut in 2013, and Rockstar hasn’t said whether GTA VI will follow the same gap.
Our read: Five weeks is the standard Rockstar runway. GTA 5’s launch trailer landed on September 4, 2013, about 50 days before its September 17 console launch. Dropping it now means the review embargo is the next milestone on the calendar, not another trailer. The ankle monitor is the only concrete new plot detail Rockstar has added since the December 2023 reveal, and the studio is almost certainly protecting one major twist for launch day. If you pre-ordered digitally, your Standard Edition ($79.99) or Ultimate Edition ($99.99) is already locked in; physical copies go on sale November 12, a week early, but they’re download codes, not discs. Plan for at least 150 GB of free SSD space based on the map’s scale; the widely shared 677 GB figure is a hoax.
