Quick answer:

  • Buy Standard ($79.99) on November 19, 2026 if you want the base game on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S at the lowest official price, and you’d rather decide on extras once you’ve played.
  • Buy Ultimate ($99.99) if you want the bonus vehicles, weapons, outfits, in-game businesses and two exclusive side missions on day one, plus a free first month of GTA+ on PS Store and Microsoft Store pre-orders.
  • Physical Standard ($79.99) is the same content on a download-code-in-a-box that goes on sale November 12. There is no separate physical edition with extra content.
  • Already pre-ordered Standard? Rockstar says you can upgrade to Ultimate after launch for the $20 difference, so there’s no penalty for waiting.

What the $99.99 Ultimate adds

The Ultimate Edition layers five things on top of the base game. Rockstar has not published an itemized list yet, but the GTA VI Launch Prep guide summarizes the confirmed content: extra vehicles, weapons, outfits, in-game businesses, and two exclusive side missions. The exact item list will land in the Rockstar Newswire closer to launch.

The free first month of GTA+ that comes with every digital pre-order stacks on top of Ultimate’s content. If you’re already a GTA+ subscriber, the month extends your existing membership rather than starting a new one. GTA+ is Rockstar’s subscription for monthly GTA Online bonuses, Shark Cards, and member-only discounts.

Pre-order bonus every edition unlocks

Every Standard and Ultimate pre-order unlocks the Vintage Vice City Pack: a 1955 Vapid Stanier (a re-skinned muscle car styled like Tommy Vercetti’s Infernus from the original Vice City) and Tommy Vercetti-inspired weapon skins. Digital pre-orders on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store also include a free month of GTA+.

There is no Collector’s Edition with a physical disc and merch bundle. Rockstar has not announced a Collector’s or Special Edition for GTA 6. The only physical SKU is the Standard download-code-in-a-box.

The upgrade path: Standard to Ultimate after launch

Rockstar has confirmed the Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade path. If you pre-order Standard to lock in the November 19 download and then change your mind, you can buy the Ultimate upgrade pack after launch for the $20 difference. The upgrade unlocks the same Ultimate bonus content. The upgrade is a separate purchase in-game or in the platform store. There is no penalty for waiting on the upgrade decision.

No Game Pass, no PS Plus, no physical Collector’s

GTA 6 is a Take-Two/Rockstar first-party launch, so it won’t appear on Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus Extra/Premium at launch. Sony and Microsoft do not include Take-Two first-party releases on subscription services on day one.

The only physical SKU is the Standard Edition download-code-in-a-box. The box goes on sale November 12, a week before launch, so you can pre-load from any retailer. There is no separate physical Collector’s Edition with merch or bonus in-game content.

Which one should you actually buy

  • Standard, you want the game at the lowest price. $79.99 is the cheapest official price on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. You can decide on Ultimate extras once you’ve played. This is the right answer for most players.
  • Ultimate, you want the bonus content on day one. The extra vehicles, weapons, outfits, businesses, and two side missions are part of the package, plus the included GTA+ month. The $20 premium is worth it if you know you’ll play all of it in launch week.
  • Physical Standard, you want a box on your shelf. The download code in a box is identical to Digital Standard. Buy it for the box, the retailer discount, or because you prefer physical. There is no in-game difference.
  • Wait and see. Pre-order Standard now to lock in the November 19 download, play the campaign first, then upgrade to Ultimate for $20 if you want the extras. Rockstar’s upgrade path is the same price whether you upgrade on launch day or six months later.

Our read: We analyzed the Rockstar-published November 19 release, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms, and the TechRadar and Windows Central reporting on the $79.99/$99.99 split against the Vintage Vice City Pack contents and the GTA+ month. The upgrade path is the trick most players should use: pre-order Standard to lock in the November 19 launch download, then upgrade to Ultimate after launch only if the bonus content appeals to you in actual play. The $20 premium is real money either way, but the $20 you spend on the upgrade after launch goes toward content you’ve already seen, not content you’re gambling on.

The bigger pre-launch question is storage and pre-load timing, which our GTA 6 launch prep guide covers in detail. The GTA 6 release date tracker is where to watch when Rockstar confirms midnight-local or simultaneous global unlock, and the GTA 6 hub collects every story we’ve run. The launch trailer dropped October 15.
