Forge of the Fae, the Celtic-inspired pixel JRPG from developer Datadyne LLC and publisher Deck13 Spotlight, will launch in March 2027 across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and GOG, the studio confirmed today alongside a new trailer. Datadyne LLC is the developer; this is their first published title through Deck13 Spotlight. The release marks the end of a five-year development cycle for the small team.

The game puts players in the role of Fiora and her friends as they try to solve a series of mysterious disappearances in a world inspired by 19th-century Ireland. Combat is turn-based, built around two intertwined systems: the ARC Crystal system for crafting customizable spells and abilities, and the Adrenaline system for stacking momentum during longer fights. Outside of combat, exploration is rewarded with environmental puzzles, optional secrets, and hidden lore pieces. Decisions across the story influence which ending branches are accessible, with at least one ancient threat to potentially awaken.

The release window locks in a Steam page that had previously listed the project as To be announced (the placeholder status Datadyne has used since 2022). Datadyne and Deck13 are using the announcement to push wishlists ahead of the demo window closing. The free demo on Steam lets players sample the opening areas and carry progress into the full game at launch. The Switch 2 version is part of the multi-platform day-one plan, alongside the original Switch and the two PlayStation consoles.

Deck13 Spotlight is the indie label behind Drova – Forsaken Kin and Chained Echoes, both of which shipped to multi-platform launches with similar day-one demos. March 2027 is the first concrete release timing the studio has confirmed since the project was first announced in 2022, and the platform list signals Deck13 is betting on a wide audience rather than a focused PC niche. The studio is also publishing Drova II: Torn Lands, announced today across the same console slate.

How this stacks up against the next few JRPG launches on the calendar:

Game Release Genre hook Demo?
Forge of the Fae March 2027 Celtic-inspired pixel fantasy, turn-based Yes (Steam, since 2024)
Final Fantasy Resonance October 22, 2026 HD-2D remake, 36/40 Famitsu No
Tales of Eternia Remastered October 16, 2026 25-year-old Bandai Namco JRPG remaster No

Our read: March 2027 puts Forge of the Fae roughly two months ahead of Final Fantasy Tactics’s HD-2D remake and in the same general window as Square Enix’s HD-2D slate. The free demo is the smart move: it has been live for nearly two years, and Datadyne and Deck13 are clearly trying to convert that early attention into wishlists before the Switch 2 ports go gold. Celtic-inspired fantasy has been a quieter niche since Pentiment shipped in 2022. Forge of the Fae is the most ambitious entrant since then. Last-gen console support alongside Switch 2 is rare for new indie JRPGs in 2026; most teams are skipping PS4 and Xbox One by now, and Datadyne keeping both opens a much bigger physical install footprint in regions where the new consoles are still expensive.

March 2027 also sits just ahead of the HD-2D Final Fantasy Resonance launch window covered in our Morning Save Point: Final Fantasy Resonance Gets 36/40 Famitsu Review, turning Forge of the Fae into the smaller-stakes indie companion release for players who want a turn-based pixel fantasy before the Square Enix slate peaks. Tales of Eternia Remastered, launching worldwide tomorrow, shows the breadth of the JRPG slate: a remastered 25-year-old Bandai Namco RPG releasing the same week as a brand-new Celtic indie.
