Nvidia’s DLSS 5 upscaling technology is getting a 2X faster model that cuts its 4K VRAM usage by 20 percent, with the new pipeline reaching NBA 2K27 on October 16, Hogwarts Legacy on November 5, and Where Winds Meet in late November, the company confirmed Tuesday.
The new model is also the first to ship on Nvidia’s RTX Spark laptops, which go on sale the same day as NBA 2K27. The October update shrinks the DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model footprint by 24 percent to roughly 118 million parameters, Nvidia’s Andrew Burnes wrote in a GeForce news post. It also reduces 4K VRAM use by 20 percent, which Nvidia calls half the GPU overhead of the September version while keeping comparable visual fidelity. The Verge’s Tom Warren confirmed the timing and noted the new model debuts in NBA 2K27 on October 16 and ships by default with future DLSS 5 games.
Hogwarts Legacy is the headline launch. The Avalanche Software-developed open-world RPG, which has sold over 40 million copies, will get a DLSS 5 update on November 5. Nvidia published new comparison screenshots showing the toned-down face and lighting changes the studio applied after the controversy that greeted DLSS 5’s reveal earlier this year. Teenagers in Hogwarts Legacy no longer look like middle-aged men, Warren noted, and the environmental changes look more subtle. Where Winds Meet, the Wuxia open-world RPG with 100M+ players and a 250,000-peak on Steam, will get DLSS 5 support in late November after community demand and developer testing, Nvidia said.
The October 16 launch also brings a new “Preset C” Performance Mode for Frame Generation on RTX 40- and 50-series GPUs and RTX Spark laptops. The new mode uses a faster, lighter algorithm in place of one of the two AI models that drive Frame Gen. The trade-off is minor image quality for up to 35 percent more frames on a GeForce RTX 5060. On October 23, DLSS 5 will be added to RTX Remix, Nvidia’s modder platform. Modders Sparkles/Kim2091 (Fallout 4 RTX) and SoftSoundd (Mirror’s Edge RTX) have been testing it.
Nvidia is the GPU and AI platform company behind GeForce, RTX, DLSS, and the upcoming RTX Spark laptops. DLSS 5 is the company’s fifth-generation Deep Learning Super Sampling. It uses AI to upscale lower-resolution frames into higher-resolution images with ray-traced lighting and materials, layered onto the game engine’s geometry, textures, and lighting buffers. Hogwarts Legacy is the Avalanche Software RPG set in the 1800s wizarding world, published by Warner Bros. Games under the Portkey Games label. Where Winds Meet is the Everstone Studio-developed Wuxia open-world RPG with long-term free live-service updates.

Our read: DLSS 5’s launch has been the most-watched AI-gaming story of 2026, and the toning-down in Hogwarts Legacy is a meaningful course correction. The original face-redistribution in DLSS 5 demos looked like generative-AI-style edits to characters, which is exactly the perception Nvidia did not want. For Hogwarts Legacy, the Avalanche Software team has clearly used the SDK’s artist controls to keep the original character art, and the November 5 update will be the first big test of whether the toned-down model still feels like a meaningful visual upgrade. For RTX 40 and 50 owners, the new Performance Mode is the more practical day-to-day win: up to 35 percent more frames with a quality trade-off you can toggle off in the Nvidia app, and it works on hardware people already own. Combined with our RTX 5090 production-end story from earlier this month, the picture is that Nvidia is in transition: high-end desktop GPUs are winding down, RTX Spark laptops are taking the premium mobile slot, and the DLSS roadmap is doing more of the heavy lifting for visual upgrades than raw hardware horsepower. The release calendar has Hogwarts Legacy’s November 5 update listed, and the player-counts page tracks Where Winds Meet and Hogwarts Legacy’s ongoing Steam player data tracked by Pixel Herald.
