AMD FSR 4.1 is coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and the Xbox Ally handhelds, AMD and Xbox announced on October 20, 2026. There’s no release date for any of them. Xbox consoles are listed as “coming soon,” and neither Microsoft nor AMD would give The Verge a timeframe, according to The Verge’s report.
FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) renders a game at a lower resolution, then uses machine learning to sharpen the image, which frees up performance. Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet said in the announcement that the teams worked closely to optimize it, giving developers “another powerful tool for great performance and visual quality.” Windows Central reports it should reach Xbox Ally handhelds first. PlayDayOne notes that it’s unclear whether frame generation will be part of the console version.
On PC, the rollout is already under way. The Verge says FSR 4.1 starts appearing today for Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs and for Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 series and Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series devices, through Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 drivers. AMD launched FSR 4.1 for Radeon RX 9000-series cards in March, per The Verge, and says it can improve performance in more than 300 supported games.
Van Vliet also pointed to Project Helix, saying “there’s even more ahead” with FSR Diamond powering the next Xbox hardware. No details on FSR Diamond came with this announcement.
The timing follows Sony and AMD bringing their own upscaler, QSSR, to the base PS5 a few weeks ago, per The Verge.
The Xbox Series S is the console that stands to gain most. Windows Central points out that the Series S has been hard for developers to target because of its RAM allocation, and a better upscaler could take some pressure off hitting a native 1080p image. Until Xbox names a date and a supported-games list, treat this as a promise rather than something your console does today.
