Rainbow Six Mobile is shutting down. Ubisoft confirmed on October 8 that the mobile version of its tactical shooter will go offline on January 15, 2027, less than a year after its global launch.
The studio announced the sunset in a message to players, thanking the community for 15 seasons of play since the soft launch in 2023. The next season is still on the calendar for next week, giving players one more drop before the wind-down begins.
“We have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile,” the Rainbow Six Mobile dev team wrote. “The game will remain available until January 15, 2027.”
What we know
- The game stays online through January 15, 2027. After that, the servers go dark.
- One more season launches “as planned next week,” so players get a final batch of content before the end.
- The dev team will move on to “other long-term strategic projects” inside Ubisoft. The studio hasn’t said which ones yet.
- Ubisoft will share more transition details “in the coming weeks.”
Ubisoft has not yet said what happens to in-app purchases, battle pass progress, or any leftover premium currency once the servers shut off. That’s the kind of detail to watch for in those follow-up updates.
The short, strange life of R6 Mobile
Rainbow Six Mobile first surfaced in 2022 as a ground-up attempt to bring Siege-style tactical play to phones. Closed betas and regional soft launches ran through 2023 and 2024, and the game rolled out worldwide in February 2026.
That gave the global player base less than eight months with the finished product before today’s announcement. It’s the latest in a growing list of live-service games that hit the brakes well short of their planned lifespan.
Siege itself, the PC and console game Rainbow Six Mobile was modeled after, isn’t going anywhere. When Ubisoft first announced the mobile game, the team made that point plain: “Our goal is not to have you stop playing on PC or console and switch to mobile. We know there is nothing like the adrenaline rush of a close Siege match on the big screen or the precision of a mouse and keyboard.”
What we don’t know yet
- Whether Ubisoft will offer refunds for recent in-app purchases or unused premium currency.
- Which Ubisoft project the R6 Mobile team will fold into.
- Whether the game’s operators, maps, or modes will live on in any form inside Siege or another R6 title.
- Whether next week’s season will be a full drop or a shorter farewell update.
For now, Rainbow Six Mobile players have about 100 days to finish whatever they started. After January 15, 2027, the operator roster goes quiet.
Correction (October 9, 2026): An earlier version attributed a developer quote to this week’s shutdown notice; it came from the game’s original announcement. We also removed an unsourced comparison to XDefiant.
