This week’s rotation on the Epic Games Store is a short, odd-couple pair: Bad Cheese, a first-person psychological horror dressed up in the 1920s rubber-hose animation, and Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise, a spy-themed point-and-click puzzle with 1960s spy-movie cool. Both are free from today through October 22 at 10 a.m. CT, and you’ve got a week to claim them before Epic rotates to its next pair.
Free right now on Epic (October 15-22)
- Bad Cheese is a first-person psychological horror inspired by the eerie charm of 1920s animation. You play a small mouse spending the weekend at home with a dysfunctional dad while mom is away, completing tasks, finding toys, and trying to keep the household calm while everything slowly bends out of shape. Critics landed on a Mixed 63 on Metacritic (five reviews), with GameGrin’s 80 calling out the world-building and visuals while Gamereactor UK’s 40 hit on the same point from the other side: nice aesthetics, paper-thin scares. Released September 1, 2025 by Simon Lukasik and published by Feardemic, normally $12.99.
- Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise is a 1960s spy-themed point-and-click adventure from Yak & Co. Your mission is to infiltrate enemy spy Ruby La Rouge’s secret hideaway and put a stop to her evil plans, working through eight chapters of stylish hidden-object and logic puzzles. Critics gave the Switch version a 79 on Metacritic (nine reviews), with Pure Nintendo’s 90 calling it “clever, funny, well-designed, and involving” and Nintendo Enthusiast’s 70 noting the puzzles can run simple but the world is worth it. Originally released August 29, 2019, normally $19.99 on PC and Switch.
Coming next on Epic (October 22-29)
- Sker Ritual is the spiritual successor to the Welsh horror FPS Sker Country, picked up as one of the better-reviewed co-op survival shooters of 2024. The Epic rotation goes back to that game’s sister title next week.
- Home: A Unique Horror Adventure is a first-person exploration horror from indie developer Benjamin Richards, built around an empty house and whatever still lives in it. No release date confirmed for the Epic window beyond the October 22 start.
Plus more giveaways
- Castlevania: 40th Anniversary is free on the App Store and Google Play through October 24, courtesy of Konami. It’s the untouched 1986 NES original that started the franchise. The same 40th-anniversary run has been lighting up the Switch and Switch 2 space all year, but the mobile version is the simplest grab for anyone who just wants the original game on their phone.
- Dwarven Realms is giving away Steam keys (free, requires 10 ARP points); GigaBash is free on Stove; Primal Slideee Deluxe is free on Stove through October 31. Lower-tier indies, but worth a check if you’re filling out a library.
Our read: This is the kind of week where the pair is bigger than the sum of its parts. Both Epic games are mid-tier indies, with Bad Cheese a moody 2.5-hour horror that critics couldn’t agree on, and Agent A a slow-burn six-hour puzzle game with strong art direction, so pick by mood. Horror fans should grab Bad Cheese while it’s there. Puzzle and narrative players will get more out of Agent A. The Castlevania 40th Anniversary mobile pickup is the easiest four-minute claim of the week.
